  • How We Think About People

Open Access•Adrian Landwehr, Isabel T Strubel et al.•ARTICLE•Conflict Resolution Quarterly•2025

For decades, researchers have dealt with how human nature influences behavior in conflicts. Today, it is recognized that subjective beliefs about human nature play a significant role in conflict situations. This was also acknowledged in studies using the theory of planned behavior to explain conflict behavior as the potential for integrating beliefs about human nature was highlighted there, too. In this longitudinal study, with a representative s…

Open Access•Julia A Schreiber, Mathias Jaudas et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Conflict…•2025

Purpose Understanding the cognitions behind emotions like indignation can aid in conflict transformation by helping parties reframe their perceptions, potentially de-escalating conflicts. This study aims to explore the role of cognitive components and their interplay for indignation and conflict-associated behaviors. Design/methodology/approach Based on Montada and Kals’ (2013) social conflict theory, this experimental online study ( n = 1077) ex…

  • Verständigung statt Polarisierung

Jürgen Maes, Elisabeth Kals et al.•ARTICLE•Forschungsjournal Soziale…•2022

  • Self-esteem development across the life span

Uli Orth, Jürgen Maes et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2015•Citada por: 15•Referências: 5

The authors examined the development of self-esteem across the life span. Data came from a German longitudinal study with 3 assessments across 4 years of a sample of 2,509 individuals ages 14 to 89 years. The self-esteem measure used showed strong measurement invariance across assessments and birth cohorts. Latent growth curve analyses indicated that self-esteem follows a quadratic trajectory across the life span, increasing during adolescence, y…

  • Determinants of Human Rights Attitudes and Behavior

    Open Access•J Christopher Cohrs, Jürgen Maes et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2007•Citada por: 43•Referências: 41

Following several political‐psychological approaches, the present research analyzed whether orientations toward human rights are a function of right‐wing authoritarianism (RWA), social dominance orientation (SDO), basic human values in the sense of Schwartz (1992), and political ideology. Three dimensions of human rights attitudes (endorsement, restriction, and enforcement) were differentiated from human rights knowledge and behavior. In a time‐l…

  • Justice Sensitivity

Manfred Schmitt, Mario Gollwitzer et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Psychological…•2005

Scales for justice sensitivity from three perspectives (victim, observer, perpetrator) were developed. A latent state-trait analysis revealed high reliabilities (≈ .95). Trait consistencies (≈ .61) were twice as large as occasion specificities (≈ .33). The correlation between observer and perpetrator sensitivity was much higher than the correlation between either one and victim sensitivity. Self-related concerns (Machiavellianism, paranoia, suspi…

  • The Motivational Bases of Right-Wing Authoritarianism and Social Dominance Orientation

Open Access•J Christopher Cohrs, Barbara Moschner et al.•ARTICLE•Personality and Social Psychology…•2005

Research suggests that different motivational dynamics underlie right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and social dominance orientation (SDO). These differences may be framed in the theory of basic human values. RWA may trace back to conservation versus openness-to-change values, and SDO to self-enhancement versus self-transcendence values. Based on a large-scale German survey, associations of RWA and SDO with personal values and attitudes in the afte…
