The authors report an unusual denture, fashioned from elephant ivory and designed for someone who had probably lost their teeth. It was found in a latrine pit together with pottery and tobacco pipes, indicating that it had belonged to a wealthy tea-drinker of the early eighteenth century

A medieval example of a sagittal cleft or 'butterfly' vertebra
A mature adult medieval male with a rare congenital anomaly, a sagittal-cleft or butterfly vertebra, is presented. Clinical cases are frequently associated with axial as well as soft-tissue defects. The present case, based only on skeletal evidence, appears to be an isolated finding. The aetiology of the clefting is outlined and palaeopathological evidence for the condition is included. One hundred and thirty six well-preserved medieval skeletons were excavated in advance of re-development in Norwich. The right patella of a 13-15 year old skeleton (SK 65) displays a 'fracture line' running through the supero-lateral pole. This represents the fusion of a secondary ossification centre, a condition known as bipartite patella. It should not be confused with other anatomical variants or with pathological processes. This study examined sex differences in unique and common first names of 6125 infants born over a 5-yr. period. Females were more likely than males to receive unique first names. This helps explain the results of previous research which showed that males with unique names were more likely to be maladjusted while this was not true for females

This study examined the psychosexual symbolic significance of the letter “I” in the handwriting of male homosexuals and a male control group. It was argued that symbols are enmeshed with the subject's daily conflicts. During archaeological excavation of St George's church, Canterbury, 269 skeletons ranging from early medieval to late nineteenth century were recovered. A medieval female aged ca. 23–28 years displayed an unusual dental anomaly, an odontome. Odontomes are infrequent in clinical dentistry. Two adult male skeletons from Buckland Dover, dated to the pagan Anglo-Saxon period, displayed evidence of cranial weapon injury.
