  • Patterns of knowledge in children's addition

    Katherine H Canobi, Robert A Reeve et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2003•Citada por: 7•Referências: 41

Patterns of conceptual and procedural knowledge of addition were examined in 5- to 8-year-olds (N = 80). Conceptual knowledge was measured by assessing children's responses to problems in which addends were reordered or decomposed and recombined. Problems were presented using abstract symbols, numbers, and physical objects. Children were more successful in noticing that addends had been reordered rather than decomposed and in noticing the decompo…

  • Youth Culture and Smoking

Paul Schofield, Penelope E Schofield et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2003•Citada por: 5•Referências: 29

This article assesses four theoretical models proposed to predict future smoking. Young adults were surveyed at three six-month intervals, the first occurring three months after leaving school. Models 1 and 2 were versions of theory of triadic influence (TTI), which links a person's behavioural experience and cognitions to their future behaviour. Model 1 did not fit the data; the fit of model 2 was just adequate. Model 3 combined TTI and self-cat…

  • The role of conceptual understanding in children's addition problem solving

    Katherine H Canobi, Robert A Reeve et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1998•Citada por: 9•Referências: 3

The study examined the relationship between children's conceptual understanding and addition problem-solving procedures. Forty-eight 6- to 8-year-olds solved addition problems and, in a 2nd task, were prompted to judge whether a puppet could use the arithmetic properties of one problem to solve the next problem. Relational properties between consecutive problems were manipulated to reflect aspects of additive composition, commutativity, and assoc…

  • The Joint Role Structure of Two Communities' Elites

    Open Access•R Breiger, Ronald L Breiger et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1978•Citada por: 28•Referências: 12

Blockmodel analysis offers a perspective for developing operational theories of role interlock across multiple networks. We identify precisely those features of role interlock that are shared by the elites of two small cities. This joint role structure is then interpreted with the aid of an algebraic model that we formulate on the basis of Granovetter's (1973) 'strength of weak ties' argument. Our discussion illustrates the operationalization of …
