  • Collaborative governance in urban regeneration

Yanjun Cai, Belinda Yuen et al.•ARTICLE•Planning Practice and Research•2026

Urban regeneration amid climate change and digital transformation creates new opportunities for participatory approaches and collaborative practices. Yet the mechanisms of collaborative governance for sustainability remain largely understudied. This qualitative multi-method study examines how collaborative governance is operationalised in urban regeneration across four global cities – Seoul, Shenzhen, Vancouver, and Vienna – under differing insti…

  • The hominin teeth from the late Middle Pleistocene Hualongdong site, China

  • Ride-hailing while female

Open Access•Yanjun Cai, Jielan Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Convergence The International…•2024

This research reveals how social media advances gender responsiveness in the context of China’s digital transformation by exploring ride-hailing services, a fast-growing though often under-regulated sector. Specifically, the rise of ride-hailing has been accompanied by incidents of sexual harassment and gender-based violence, leading to social media outrage. Building on Habermas’s concept of the public sphere, this study – perhaps the first to ex…

  • Climate resilience and resistance in Myanmar

    Yanjun Cai•ARTICLE•Climate and Development•2023

This research manifests the voices of women in Myanmar tackling climate hazards. Facing an unpredictable climatic future, the disadvantaged populations, such as women from the informal settlements, are considered to be exposed to higher risks, whereas their resilience-building efforts are usually overlooked in academia and policymaking. This work highlights the gendered climate resilience in Dala Township, a peri-urban community of Yangon, throug…

OBJECTIVES: The paleontological description and comparative analysis using discrete morphology, morphometrics (linear and geometric) and cross-sectional geometry of three femoral diaphyseal sections from the Middle Pleistocene site of Hualongdong, China. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The material consists of the original Hualongdong femoral fossils and available data on femoral diaphyses from Middle and Late Pleistocene archaic humans and Middle and ear…

  • Visualizing Vulnerability for Inclusive Community Resilience

    Open Access•Yanjun Cai•ARTICLE•Journal of Planning Education and…•2020•Citada por: 4•Referências: 19

This study explores the integration of photovoice with Facebook to demonstrate diverse dimensions of vulnerability through the lens of twenty-six informal settlers in metropolitan Manila and Cebu City. Through this mixed-methods approach, the article adds to the growing literature on vulnerability as an intrinsic and dynamic outcome of unjust social structures in the context of community resilience. Findings demonstrate the richness of vulnerabil…

  • The age of human remains and associated fauna from Zhiren Cave in Guangxi, southern China

Open Access•Yanjun Cai, Xiaoke Qiang et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017

  • Trace-element variations in an annually layered stalagmite as recorders of climatic changes and anthropogenic pollution in Central China

    Open Access•Liangcheng Tan, Chuan‐chou Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2014

We analyzed variations in the Sr/Ca, Ba/Ca, REE/Ca (REE: rare earth element), Zn/Ca, and Pb/Ca ratios preserved in an annually layered stalagmite, XL21, from central China. The stalagmite record spans the 95 year period AD 1914–2008. The Sr/Ca and Ba/Ca ratios have a significant positive correlation with the stalagmite's growth rate, suggesting that they were primarily controlled by growth-rate variations. Variations in REE/Ca ratios are consiste…

  • New 400–320 ka Gigantopithecus blacki remains from Hejiang Cave, Chongzuo City, Guangxi, South China

  • Interplay between the Westerlies and Asian monsoon recorded in Lake Qinghai sediments since 32 ka

Open Access•Zhaolong An, Zhisheng An et al.•ARTICLE•Scientific Reports•2012

Two atmospheric circulation systems, the mid-latitude Westerlies and the Asian summer monsoon (ASM), play key roles in northern-hemisphere climatic changes. However, the variability of the Westerlies in Asia and their relationship to the ASM remain unclear. Here, we present the longest and highest-resolution drill core from Lake Qinghai on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau (TP), which uniquely records the variability of both the Westerlies and the…

  • Human remains from Zhirendong, South China, and modern human emergence in East Asia

Open Access•Wu Liu, Changzhu Jin et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2010

The 2007 discovery of fragmentary human remains (two molars and an anterior mandible) at Zhirendong (Zhiren Cave) in South China provides insight in the processes involved in the establishment of modern humans in eastern Eurasia. The human remains are securely dated by U-series on overlying flowstones and a rich associated faunal sample to the initial Late Pleistocene, >100 kya. As such, they are the oldest modern human fossils in East Asia and p…

  • Centennial- to decadal-scale monsoon precipitation variability in the semi-humid region, northern China during the last 1860 years

    Open Access•Liangcheng Tan, Yanjun Cai et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2010•Citada por: 9•Referências: 2

We developed a composite oxygen isotopic record of cave calcite for the last 1860 years based on three stalagmites from the Huangye Cave in eastern Gansu Province, northern China. The δ 18 O values reflect monsoon precipitation changes, with lower δ 18 O values representing higher precipitation and vice versa. Three intervals of high precipitation were identified at AD 138—450, AD 730—1200, and AD 1860—1960. Two intervals of low precipitation occ…

  • Timing, Duration, and Transitions of the Last Interglacial Asian Monsoon

Open Access•Daoxian Yuan, Hai Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2004

Thorium-230 ages and oxygen isotope ratios of stalagmites from Dongge Cave, China, characterize the Asian Monsoon and low-latitude precipitation over the past 160,000 years. Numerous abrupt changes in 18 O/ 16 O values result from changes in tropical and subtropical precipitation driven by insolation and millennial-scale circulation shifts. The Last Interglacial Monsoon lasted 9.7 ± 1.1 thousand years, beginning with an abrupt (less than 200 year…

  • Lipid distribution in a subtropical southern China stalagmite as a record of soil ecosystem response to paleoclimate change

Open Access•Shucheng Xie, Yi Yi et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

Lipid extracts from a 61.7-cm-long subtropical stalagmite in southern China, spanning the period of ca. 10,000–21,000 yr ago as constrained by U–Th dating, were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The higher plants and microorganisms in the overlying soils contribute a proportion of n -alkanes identified in the stalagmite. The occurrence of LMW (lower molecular weight) n -alkanols and n -alkan-2-ones in the stalagmite was mainly …
