Communication Strategies in a Second Language
This paper examines trends in second language (L2) communication strategy (CS) research to date. Many factors influence student reactions to tests, including format, length, time constraints, testing environment, familiarity with test format, perceptions of test validity, and student anxiety. The present study assessed the affective reactions of native Brazilian students to different oral EFL test formats (group and pair) in an achievement testing situation. TESTED THE FOCAL ATTENTION HYPOTHESIS that pictures interfere with sight-word learning. The design was structured to avoid 2 methodological flaws identified in most related research.
