Open to all? Examining class inequality in UK museum work through Bourdieu’s field-logics and the construction of ‘ideal’ career norms

This article contributes to our understanding of how occupational contexts shape everyday constructions of class-based inequality. Using Bourdieu's concept of field, and UK museum work as a case, we analyse interview, focus group and secondary data. Drawing on border theory, this article presents a study of the role that social class plays in the interplay between work and non-work life. A survey was used to collect subjective ratings of social class for class origin, home and work domains. Interviews were then conducted with 20 individuals to explore participants' experiences of social class across their work-life domains. Struggles for distinction
This article responds to calls from critical diversity scholars to explore class in context, arguing for a view of classing as a discursive process and adopting Bourdieu's concept of field as a site of discursive struggle. Analysing interview, web and focus group data, we address this in the field of UK museum work. Assessing the Early Holocene Environment of Northwestern Guyana
This study uses stable carbon δ13C and oxygen δ18O isotope compositions data to assess the extent to which diet breadths of northwestern Guyana changed during the Holocene. We analyzed human bone and enamel remains from seven shell mound sites dating between 7500 and 2600 BP. Our analyses demonstrate some constancy in C3 plant availability during the past several thousand years, though we note increasing reliance on such plants beginning in the E…
