  • Advancements in radiocarbon dating

    Open Access•Corina Solís, C Solı́s et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2025•Citada por: 1•Referências: 62

In this article, we provide a concise historical summary tracing the evolution of radiocarbon dating techniques in Mexico and Central America. We explore the contributions of early pioneers who first employed radiocarbon dating methods, leading to the establishment of a Mexican accelerator mass spectrometry laboratory. The study highlights its pivotal role in shaping chronological frameworks for archaeological investigations in Mexico. Additional…

  • Radiocarbon Dating of Archaeological Material Recovered From the Basin of Mexico

Open Access•Francisco Antonio Balcorta Yépez, Montserrat Alavez Ortúzar et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2021•Citada por: 1•Referências: 13

The Mexico City Basin has had exceptional plant and animal diversity since ancient times due to its varied orography and benign climate. This environment attracted diverse human groups, from hunter-gatherers to one of the most influential pre-Hispanic cultures of Mesoamerica: the Mexica, also known as the Aztec. The subsoil of Mexico City hides a rich and varied cultural heritage. The Archaeological Rescue Department works to preserve cultural he…

  • Establishing Water Sample Protocols for Radiocarbon Analysis at Lac-Uff, Brazil

Open Access•Daniela Bragança, Fabiana Oliveira et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2021•Citada por: 4•Referências: 12

Since the establishment of the first radiocarbon accelerator mass spectrometry facility in Latin America in 2009, the Radiocarbon Laboratory team of Universidade Federal Fluminense (LAC-UFF) has worked to improve sample preparation protocols and increase the range of environmental matrices to be analyzed. We now present the preliminary results for DIC sample preparation protocols. The first validation tests include background evaluation with pMC …

The Mayan Codex of Mexico (MCM), the only Mayan codex found in the 20th century, was unveiled in 1971 during the Ancient Maya Calligraphy exhibition at Club Grolier. The codex comprises 10 pages of bark paper in accordion format, coated with a layer of plaster on both sides. It illustrates the synodic cycles of Venus, with its four phases. Since its discovery, the MCM has been subject to controversy and discussions about its authenticity. In 2016…
