  • Shock responses

Open Access•Timothy Wilson, Ilan Noy et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2026

We examine how households responded to shocks (such as floods) in Malawi from 2003 to 2020. We find that rural households and those with lower education levels are more likely to respond to shocks in ways that reinforce poverty cycles, such as by selling productive assets. Our findings are nuanced; while rural households are 2 percent more likely to adopt poverty-reinforcing responses in general, they are 5 percent less likely to reduce food expe…

  • Community groups, organisations, and employers respond to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Katharine Abba, Adele Ring et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The study underscores the importance of local resilience, highlighting the VCFSE sector's central role in addressing inequalities exacerbated by crises. It calls for substantial long-term investment to sustain this vital infrastructure, which is critical not only for recovery but also for preparedness for future societal shocks

  • Fifty years of peril

    Open Access•Timothy Wilson, Ilan Noy•ARTICLE•Global Policy•2023

We compare the realised impact of terrorism and disasters linked to natural hazards. Using 50 years of data from two databases covering most of the global population, we find that natural hazard disasters were more than 20 times more impactful than terrorism. The former had a larger realised impact in all regions in both gross and per capita terms. The largest cross‐peril difference was in Asia, where natural hazard disasters took 324 million lif…

  • A qualitative evaluation of coproduction of research

Open Access•Joanne Worsley, Mick Mckeown et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2022

BACKGROUND: Patients and public members are increasingly involved across the different stages of the research process. Their involvement is particularly important in the conception and design of applied health research where it enables people with lived experience to influence the aims, content, focus and methods. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the process of coproducing a mental health-related research proposal suitable for funding through a national he…

  • Politics in science

Timothy Wilson, Timothy M Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Language and Politics•2017•Referências: 12

Intelligent design is a pseudoscientific concept conceived in an attempt to bring religion-based teaching into the classroom. As such, it is involved in a constant struggle for dialogic space with the dominant scientific discourse of the theory of evolution. Here, we use a corpus linguistic approach to study how intelligent design discourse uses engagement to forward its creationistic propositions and at the same time limit the propositions of th…

From (at least) the Balfour Declaration of 1917 right down to the present day, the Zionist-Palestinian conflict has been sculpted by external forces. But never entirely so: grassroots patterns of confrontation have also been vital. This article therefore adopts a “bottom-up” approach to the evolution of the conflict since the early twentieth century

  • The Video Game Industry

Timothy L Wilson, Peter Zackariasson et al.•BOOK•The Video Game Industry•2012

The Video Game Industry provides a platform for the research on the video game industry to draw a coherent and informative picture of this industry. Previously this has been done sparsely through conference papers, research articles, and popular science books. Although the study of this industry is still stigmatized as frivolous and only game oriented, those who grew up with video games are changing things, especially research agendas, the accept…
