Body weight representation in children's picturebooks
The current study analyzed body-weight representation of characters in 50 children's picturebooks about body image. A repeated-measures ANOVA confirmed that average-weight characters were depicted significantly more often than thin and fat characters, both of which were depicted equally as often. A longitudinal investigation of the relation between parenting and youth's prosocial behavior toward other‐gender peers
There is little research on how parenting is related to youth's prosocial behavior toward outgroup members. We examined how parental warmth and gender socialization predict youth's altruistic and public prosocial behavior toward other-gender peers. A total of 358 youth (M age = 13.00, SD age = 1.13) and their parents participated in the study over 2 years in the United States. Critical consciousness represents the analysis of inequitable social conditions, the motivation to effect change, and the action taken to redress perceived inequities. This study presents findings from an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) initiative in Arizona called Smart Support. Ugandan Adolescents' Attitudes Toward, and Shared Activities with, Same- and Other-Gender Peers and Friends
Ugandan adolescents ( n = 202, 54% girls; Mage = 14.26) answered closed- and open-ended questions about the gender composition of friends and attitudes about, and activities with, same- and other-gender peers and friends.
