A qualitative exploration of researchers’ efforts to record healthcare encounters
Recordings of healthcare encounters are a rich source of data, providing high-quality evidence to guide improvement in communication. Through a survey, we explored UK researchers’ experience of attempting to employ this method. Findings highlight challenges throughout the research process, relating to: bureaucracy and the disproportionate attribution of risk, subjectivity and heterogeneity in the application of regulations and processes, and the …
Delivering Inclusive Cultural Offers for Social Prescribing
INTRODUCTION: Research shows cultural activities benefit older people's wellbeing, but little is known about why individuals from global majority (minority ethnic) groups engage less with the mainstream cultural sector, or how it could adapt to meet their needs and encourage engagement. The TOUS study (Tailoring cultural Offers with and for diverse older Users of Social prescribing) investigated the question: What tailoring is needed, how, when a…
Understanding Barriers and Facilitators for Ethnic Minority Groups to Audio Recording Recruitment Discussions in Clinical Trials
INTRODUCTION: Fully informed consent is essential for ethical trial conduct, yet gaps in participant comprehension and recall can occur, particularly among underserved groups, for example, ethnic minorities. This Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) project explored the engagement of ethnic minority communities in trial recruitment discussions, particularly their views about audio recording discussions with healthcare professional…
Intersectionality and Long Covid
INTRODUCTION: Long Covid is the patient-preferred term to describe persistent symptoms experienced following an acute Covid-19 infection. The severity and unpredictable nature of long Covid symptoms can affect every aspect of an individual's life. Under-represented groups such as ethnic minorities and lower socio-economic groups are disproportionately affected by long Covid and often face challenges in accessing healthcare and additional support.…
How Do We Get the Public Into Public Health Research? Learnings and Key Recommendations From Initiating a Community Involvement Project Scheme
Trauma-Informed Approaches in Primary Healthcare and Community Mental Healthcare
A trauma-informed approach is a framework for organisational (synonym system) change interventions that address the universal prevalence and impact of trauma. This mixed methods systematic review assessed the effects of trauma-informed approaches on psychological, behavioural, and health outcomes in health-care providers and adult patients in primary care and community mental healthcare. We searched five databases and grey literature and consulte…
Exploring the theory, barriers and enablers for patient and public involvement across health, social care and patient safety
Black and minority ethnic group involvement in health and social care research
What is Asset-Based Community Development and How Might It Improve the Health of People With Long-Term Conditions? A Realist Synthesis
Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) appears to be a promising way to supporting people with long-term health problems but there is currently a lack of evidence to support this approach. Taking a realist approach, a review and concept-mapping exercise of ABCD approaches to improve health were conducted with a view to providing a better understanding about these approaches, how they work, and who they work for. Totally, 29 papers were deemed r…
Controlled Interventions to Reduce Burnout in Physicians
Importance Burnout is prevalent in physicians and can have a negative influence on performance, career continuation, and patient care. Existing evidence does not allow clear recommendations for the management of burnout in physicians. Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to reduce burnout in physicians and whether different types of interventions (physician-directed or organization-directed interventions), physician characteri…
