  • Trends in obesity prevalence by gender and educational level among adults in Mid-Sweden between 2012 and 2022

Anu Molarius, Jan Karlsson•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2025•Referências: 10

BACKGROUND: The aim was to investigate trends in obesity prevalence by gender and educational level in the general population aged 30-69 years, based on large surveys conducted in Mid-Sweden in 2012, 2017 and 2022. METHODS: ) was based on self-reported weight and height. Trends in obesity prevalence, including comparisons across educational levels, were estimated by age-standardised proportions with corresponding 95% CIs. Differences between gend…

  • Factors associated with reported need of weight loss support among adults with overweight or obesity

    Open Access•Anu Molarius, Jan Karlsson•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2024

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate factors associated with reported need of weight loss support among adults with overweight or obesity in the general population. Design: A cross-sectional population study based on a survey questionnaire sent to a random population sample. Multivariate odds ratios for reported need of weight loss support were calculated for socio-economic, lifestyle and health indicators, in total and by gender a…

  • Diel, seasonal, and inter-annual variation in carbon dioxide effluxes from lakes and reservoirs

    Open Access•Małgorzata Gołub, Nikaan Koupaei‐Abyazani et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Accounting for temporal changes in carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) effluxes from freshwaters remains a challenge for global and regional carbon budgets. Here, we synthesize 171 site-months of flux measurements of CO 2 based on the eddy covariance method from 13 lakes and reservoirs in the Northern Hemisphere, and quantify dynamics at multiple temporal scales. We found pronounced sub-annual variability in CO 2 flux at all sites. By accounting for diel vari…

  • The minimal important change for the EQ VAS based on the SF-36 health transition item

Open Access•Anders Joelson, Fredrik Nerelius et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2022

For EQ VAS, we recommend a MIC threshold of 12 points for improvement after surgery for disk herniation or spinal stenosis, whereas the corresponding threshold for deterioration is - 7 points. There are marked differences between the EQ VAS MIC for improvement and deterioration after surgery for disk herniation or spinal stenosis. The MIC value varied depending on the method used for MIC estimation

  • The missing pieces for better future predictions in subarctic ecosystems

Open Access•Yinan He, Didac Pascual et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2021•Referências: 70

Arctic and subarctic ecosystems are experiencing substantial changes in hydrology, vegetation, permafrost conditions, and carbon cycling, in response to climatic change and other anthropogenic drivers, and these changes are likely to continue over this century. The total magnitude of these changes results from multiple interactions among these drivers. Field measurements can address the overall responses to different changing drivers, but are les…

  • Russian–EU collaboration via the mega-transect approach for large-scale projects

Sergey N Kirpotin, Terrence V Callaghan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The mega-transect approach is a unique infrastructure which was developed in Tomsk State University for environmental monitoring and landscape-ecological research. The approach can be followed in all seasons, for field sampling, ground-based research on the field stations in combination with remote sensing and ecosystem manipulations. The mega-transect was established as a framework for the concept of Western Siberia as a natural mega-facility, a…

Open Access•Kajsa Järvholm, Torsten Olbers et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2018•Referências: 40

  • Biomass offsets little or none of permafrost carbon release from soils, streams, and wildfire

    Open Access•Benjamin W Abbott, Jeremy B Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2016

As the permafrost region warms, its large organic carbon pool will be increasingly vulnerable to decomposition, combustion, and hydrologic export. Models predict that some portion of this release will be offset by increased production of Arctic and boreal biomass; however, the lack of robust estimates of net carbon balance increases the risk of further overshooting international emissions targets. Precise empirical or model-based assessments of t…

  • People can not Only Open Closed Systems, They can Also Close Open Systems

Jan Ch Karlsson, Jan Karlsson•ARTICLE•Journal of Critical Realism•2011•Citada por: 2•Referências: 3

It is a contradictory argument to say on the one hand that social systems are always open and that there is nothing between closed and open systems, and on the other that there are pseudo-closed systems. Further, Petter Næss has shown that multivariate regression analysis can be used to help uncover mechanisms, something that should be impossible if social systems were always open. He has in addition found that the meaningful activity of urban pl…

Anna Rydén, Jan Karlsson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2003

OBJECTIVE: The study examined effects of weight change on coping and distress in severely obese subjects treated conventionally or undergoing weight reduction surgery. METHODS: We used the Obesity Coping (OC) scale measuring emotion-focused, maladaptive coping (Wishful Thinking) and problem-focused, adaptive coping (Social Trust and Fighting Spirit). We also used the Obesity Distress (OD) scale (Intrusion and Helplessness) and the Hospital Anxiet…
