Smokefree home rules and susceptibility to cigarette and e-cigarette use in adolescents
SFH rules, especially strict rules without violations, were associated with lower susceptibility to cigarette or EC use, and this association was partly mediated through less tolerant attitudes toward tobacco use. Further research on policies and interventions on SFH rules and practice is warranted for effective tobacco prevention

Late-onset or chronic overweight/obesity predicts low self-esteem in early adolescence
Late-onset or chronic overweight/obesity predicted low general, social and academic/school-related self-esteem. Children who successfully reduced weight may have equal levels of self-esteem or even better social self-esteem than those being always underweight/normal weight. Overweight/obese children had a vulnerability to self-esteem in non-domestic environments

METHODS: For this pooled analysis, we used a database of cardiometabolic risk factors collated by the Non-Communicable Disease …
Exposure to health misinformation about Covid-19 and increased tobacco and alcohol use

Rising rural body-mass index is the main driver of the global obesity epidemic in adults
Body-mass index (BMI) has increased steadily in most countries in parallel with a rise in the proportion of the population who live in cities 1,2 . This has led to a widely reported view that urbanization is one of the most important drivers of the global rise in obesity 3–6 . Here we use 2,009 population-based studies, with measurements of height and weight in more than 112 million adults, to report national, regional and global trends in mean B…

Electronic cigarette use among adolescents
Surveillance and intervention efforts should address a wide range of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. Tobacco cessation programs should also address alcohol use collectively. Policies prohibiting e-cigarette sales to minors may help prevent e-cigarette uptake among adolescents
Electronic cigarette marketing tactics in mainland China

Alcohol and cardio-respiratory deaths in Chinese
High levels of alcohol use in an older Chinese population were associated with lower IHD mortality. Moderate alcohol use was less consistently protective against IHD mortality. Alcohol use was associated with lower COPD mortality particularly in men, either due to some yet to be clarified properties of alcohol or as the artefactual result of genetic selection into alcohol use in a Chinese population. Given the increasing use of alcohol in China w…
