An analysis of Nepal’s Draft Mental Health Acts 2006–2017
This qualitative study maps the process of drafting and consulting on Nepal’s mental health legislation from 2006 to 2017. A total of 14 people were interviewed and interviews were analysed thematically. These themes were subsequently interpreted in light of Shiffman and Smith’s policy analysis framework, as the process was found to be at the agenda-setting stage. Private providers and HIV testing in Pune, India
We explored HIV testing practices of private medical providers in an urban Indian setting in Pune, western India. 215 private practitioners (PPs) and 36 persons-in-charge of private laboratories were interviewed in separate surveys. 77% of PPs had prescribed HIV tests and 94% of laboratories had performed HIV tests, or collected samples for HIV testing. Food-borne outbreak of Giardia lamblia
An outbreak of giardiasis occurred following a family party for 25 persons. Nine who had eaten fruit salad became ill, compared with one who had not eaten the salad (Relative Risk = 7.4, 95% CI = 1.4, 169.3). The fruit salad preparer had a diapered child and a pet rabbit at home who were both positive for Giardia lamblia. In the fall of 1985, an outbreak of giardiasis occurred among several swimming groups at an indoor pool in northeast New Jersey. Nine clinical cases were identified, eight of whom had Giardia positive stool specimens. All were female; seven were adults (greater than 18 years) and two were children. The attack rate was highest (39 per cent, 5/13) for the ladies lap group who had exposure on one day. These cases had no direct contact with children …
