  • Assessing the Ecological Footprint and biocapacity of Portuguese cities

Open Access•Alessandro Galli, Katsunori Iha et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2020•Citada por: 3•Referências: 49

The unsustainable use of our planet's resources needs to be tackled from different angles and multiple levels of governance. As the human population urbanizes, having access to reliable, cross-cutting, quantitative city-level sustainability metrics is key to understanding the environmental impacts of urban dwellers and the role cities can play in the 21st century sustainability challenge. Framing the environmental pillar of urban sustainability w…

  • The application of ecological footprint and biocapacity for environmental carrying capacity assessment

    Open Access•Małgorzata Świąder, David Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Science & Policy•2019•Citada por: 6•Referências: 4

Contemporary socio-environmental problems such as the reduced availability of natural resources, the loss of biodiversity, soil degradation, pollution, an unprecedented population growth, the mass migration of people to cities, and urban sprawl may be associated with the consequences of an economic infinite growth paradigm on a finite planet. Despite international goals for improving the spatial and environmental management, current and future de…

  • The U.S. Arctic Observing Viewer

Open Access•William F Manley, William Manley et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2015

Although much progress has been made with various Arctic Observing efforts, assessing that progress can be difficult. What data collection efforts are established or underway? Where? By whom? To help meet the strategic needs of programs such as the U.S. Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH), the Arctic Observing Network (AON), Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) and related initiatives, an update has been released for the Arctic O…

  • High spatial resolution decade-time scale land cover change at multiple locations in the Beringian Arctic (1948–2000s)

    Open Access•David Lin, D H Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2012

Analysis of time series imagery from satellite and aircraft platforms is useful for detecting land cover change at plot to regional scales. In this study, we created multi-temporal high spatial resolution land cover maps for seven locations in the Beringian Arctic and assessed the change in land cover over time. Land cover classifications were site specific and mostly aligned with a soil moisture gradient. Time series varied between 60 and 21 yea…
