During the Iraq War, American women made history insofar as they participated in combat on an unprecedented scale. Yet, public discourse rarely spotlighted or celebrated…

A sample of homeless individuals (N = 105) in a mid-size southern city was collected to investigate the factors associated with the growing female homeless population. The data reveal that while some root causes of homelessness such as poverty, lack of affordable housing, cut backs in the welfare system, mental illness, drug dep…
Variations in Financial Performance Among Peer Groups of Critical Access Hospitals

If these variations have material effects on financial indicators, then performance comparisons among all CAHs are problematic. Purpose: To investigate whether indicators of financial performance and condition systematically vary among peer groups of …

Adolescent Culture in Colonial Massachusetts
This article first examines the paradoxes and disagreements of recent research on adolescence under four heads: the recognition of a distinctive age group between puberty and marriage during the early modern period; parent- teenager relationships; adolescent sexuality; and youth culture, hardly investi gated in seventeenth-century New England. Evidence from the Middlesex County Court Records between 1649 and 1699 is then presented and analysed. T…

"Holy Watchfulness" and Communal Conformism
THOSE who emigrated from England to New England in seventeenth century came from a land that since 155os had experienced an explosion of litigation over defamation. This legal activity against malicious gossip, libels, lampoons, or slanderous outbursts was not restricted to upper classes -indeed gentry and nobility might still indulge in traditional means of satisfaction, like duel or vendettabut extended down social scale to the respectable poor…
