Agree in restructuring
Auxiliary Switch (AS) is an under-studied phenomenon found in Romance restructuring clauses. It is contingent on the climbing of reflexive clitics, but sometimes remains insensitive to non-reflexive clitics. This article presents a modern theoretical approach to auxiliary selection in Standard European French. This paper constitutes an empirical investigation into the diachrony of clitic climbing (and consequently restructuring) in French based on data from a novel corpus of legal texts, as well as a theoretical analysis of the loss of this phenomenon from the history of French.
