  • Dating Celtic fields with luminescence

Open Access•Jungyu Choi, Roy Van Beek et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2026•Referências: 42

Celtic fields are prehistoric field systems characterised by rectangular plots enclosed by earthen banks, which are widespread across northwestern Europe. They are assumed to have emerged between the final stages of the Middle Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in continental Europe, but firm chronologies based on radiometric dating (e.g., 14 C, luminescence) are sparse, hampering the interpretation of age and formation process. This leads to cont…

  • A new local scale prediction model of Amazonian landscape domestication sites

  • Iron Age landscape changes in the Benoué River Valley, Cameroon

    Open Access•David K Wright, Maceachern et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2019

The introduction of agriculture is known to have profoundly affected the ecological complexion of landscapes. In this study, a rapid transition from C 3 to C 4 vegetation is inferred from a shift to higher stable carbon ( 13 C/ 12 C) isotope ratios of soils and sediments in the Benoué River Valley and upland Fali Mountains in northern Cameroon. Landscape change is viewed from the perspective of two settlement mounds and adjacent floodplains, as w…

  • Iron Age Landscapes of the Benue River Valley, Cameroon

    David K Wright, Maceachern et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 27

The Iron Age settlements of northern Cameroon were dispersed across the landscape, taking advantage of different eco-climatic zones to exploit a variety of natural resources. Situated at the interface of the upper and lower terraces of the Benue River, mound sites in the area around Garoua have occupation histories spanning multiple centuries. The site of Langui-Tchéboua displays evidence for rapid accumulation of sediments approximately 700 year…
