In this article, I critically reflect upon my experience with positive mentorship in the academy during my graduate program as a Black woman scholar. I share my experience with a woman-of-color mentor and the impact that it had on my scholarly identity development. I also share important lessons from this mentoring relationship and how I implement them into my own practice of mentorship as a faculty member
