Open Access•Cheikh Tidiane Ndour, Simplice Anutechia Asongu•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•2026

This study investigates the relationship between governance and intercommunal conflict in 49 African countries over the period 1990–2020, using a correlated random effects model. The results indicate that political stability, rule of law, and regulatory quality significantly reduce the likelihood of intercommunal conflict, both in the short and long term. Ethnic fragmentation is found to directly increase the probability of conflict, but this eff…

Open Access•Wen Qiang Toh, Carole Treibich et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2025•Referências: 22

Literature suggests that individuals may trade off health for income in face of an economic shock. Being in a close contact profession, the livelihoods of sex workers were severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Few studies exist on whether prevalence of better-renumerated condomless sex increased among this population in low and middle-income countries and discuss its implications on HIV/STI transmission, specifically during pandemic situati…

Awa Traoré, Cheikh Tidiane Ndour et al.•ARTICLE•Climate and Development•2024

Following the growing body of the literature assessing the governance and environmental sustainability nexus, the present study complements the extant literature by assessing how environmental sustainability can be promoted by means of policies that entail the simultaneous implementation of six governance dynamics, notably, political governance (political stability/ no violence and ‘voice & accountability’), economic governance (government effect…

Motivated by the difficulty of ensuring gender equality and the chaotic state of democracy, we analyze the effects of gender political inclusion and democracy on environmental policy performance. The study uses a panel of 45 African countries over the period 2012–2018 and employs the method of moments by quantile regression. The results show that gender political inclusion and democracy positively affect environmental performance in all quantiles…

Open Access•Albert Gautier Ndione, F Procureur et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2022

Men who have sex with men (MSM) in Senegal face a challenging socio-legal context, marked by homophobia and the illegality of homosexuality. In addition, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevalence among MSM is 27.6%, 46 times greater than the one in the general population (0.5%). Nevertheless, access to healthcare by MSM may be hampered by stigmatizing attitudes from health facility staff (medical and non-medical). This article describes the h…

Social desirability bias, which is the tendency to under-report socially undesirable health behaviours, significantly distorts information on sensitive behaviours that is gained from self-reports. As a result, self-reported condom use among high-risk populations is thought to be systematically over-reported, and it is impossible to identify the determinants of condom use. The main objective of the article is to elicit unbiased information on cond…

Open Access•Carrie Lyons, Karleen Coly et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2019

In Senegal, key populations bear a disproportionate burden of HIV and report limited uptake of HIV testing given pervasive stigma and criminalization. In these contexts, HIVST may represent a complementary approach to reach populations reporting barriers to engagement with existing and routine HIV testing services. In this study…
