Randomized, controlled study evaluating multi-disciplinary team-based learning (MDTBL) as optimal teaching paradigm for residents, comparing with problem-based learning (PBL) and lecture-based learnin…
BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare multi-disciplinary team-based learning (MDTBL), problem-based learning (PBL) and lecture-based learning (LBL) on the learning outcomes and experiences of medical students. METHODS: A randomized controlled study was designed to recruit 30 medical students with a minimum of one year of clinical experience and 45 with less than one year of clinical experience to take a course on clinical diagnosis and evaluatio…
Temporal recall in the shadow of emotion
Episodic memory, with its emphasis on temporal-spatial contexts, has been a longstanding focus in memory research. While previous studies have investigated the role of emotion in temporal source memory using emotionally charged stimuli, such as emotional words or images, the influence of a separated emotional context remains less explored. This study sought to understand the impact of separate emotional contexts on temporal source memory. Partici…
Effects of encoding type and retention interval on emotional memory
Memory enhancement for emotional words is attributed to both valence and arousal
We do not memorize items in our surroundings with equal priority. Previous literature has widely shown that emotional stimuli are better remembered than neutral stimuli. However, given emotional stimuli and neutral stimuli often differ in both valence and arousal dimensions, it remains unclear whether the enhancement effects can be attributed to valence, or just to arousal. Importantly, most prior studies relied on a relatively small number of st…
The role of temporal attention in the processing of facial expression
Negative emotion amplifies retrieval practice effect for both task-relevant and task-irrelevant information
Selective retrieval of task-relevant information often facilitates memory retention of that information. However, it is still unclear if selective retrieval of task-relevant information can alter memory for task-irrelevant information, and the role of emotional arousal in it. In two experiments, we used emotional and neutral faces as stimuli, and participants were asked to memorise the name (who is this person?) and location (where does he/she co…
Emotional arousal influences remembrance of goal-relevant stimuli
Emotional stimuli rarely occur in isolation; instead, they often cluster with nearby neutral items in time and space. Research suggests that emotional arousal at encoding strengthens memory retention for temporally adjacent goal-relevant neutral stimuli. It is an open question whether these emotion-induced enhancement effects are the same for spatially adjacent stimuli. The present study examined how emotional arousal influenced memory of tempora…
The effect of positive and negative signs on the SNARC effect in the magnitude judgment task
