  • Earliest Evidence for Textile Technologies

    Open Access•Lise Bender Jørgensen, Antoinette Rast-Eicher et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2023•Citada por: 4•Referências: 23

Recent excavations at Çatalhöyük1 in Anatolia, Turkey have recovered remains of textiles, cordage and basketry that add to finds from previous work at this Neolithic site. Along with occurrences from other sites in the Near East, North Africa and Europe, they enable charting the development of textile techniques. This paper argues that the woven textiles found in Çatalhöyük (6700–6500 cal. BC) fit in a long development in the Palaeolithic, Epipal…

  • The use of local fibres for textiles at Neolithic Çatalhöyük

    Open Access•Antoinette Rast-Eicher, Sabine Karg et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2021•Citada por: 7•Referências: 20

Woven textiles from Çatalhöyük in southern Anatolia are among the earliest-known examples of weaving in the Near East and Europe. Studies of material excavated in the 1960s identified the fibres as flax. New scanning electron microscope analysis, however, shows these fibres-and others from more recent excavations at the site-to be made from locally sourced oak bast. This result is consistent with the near absence of flax seeds at Çatalhöyük, and …

  • Innovations in European Bronze Age textiles

Lise Bender Jørgensen, Antoinette Rast-Eicher•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2016•Citada por: 3
