Semistarvation-Associated Eating Behaviors Among College Binge Eaters
Binge eating is a consequence of semistarvation in victims of war and famine and in volunteers in rare semistarvation experiments. These behaviors include bizarre mixing of ingredients and adulteration of food; eating inappropriate, soiled, or discarded food; secrecy; deception; and defensiveness. Drastic measures to resist overeating persist long after the semistarvation experience, even when food is plentiful. Binge eating, a central feature of…
Comparison of MMPI-2 Clinical and Content Scales Administered to Hispanic and Anglo-Americans
Anglo and Hispanic Americans were compared on the MMPI-2 clinical, validity, and content scales. The MMPI-2 was administered to 400 male and female Anglo and Hispanic American university students. Hispanic subjects scored significantly higher than Anglos on 2 of the 3 validity and 4 of the 10 clinical scales, whereas Anglos were significantly higher than the Hispanics on only the K scale. Hispanics also scored significantly higher than Anglos on …
Dimensional Structure of the Wais-R
A two-step procedure was used to evaluate the dimensional structure of the WAIS-R. The first step involved the assessment of the goodness-of-fit of various one, two, and three factor models of the WAIS-R, by using confirmatory factor analytic procedures, for a sample of Anglo adults (n = 200). A three-common-factor solution provided the best fit for the Anglo sample data: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Organization, and Freedom from Distractabi…
Comparison of Anglo and Mexican American Male High School Students Classified as Learning Disabilities
Two groups of 80 Mexican American and Anglo male high school students were administered the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale and Wide Range Achievement Test. Hfalf of each ethnic group was classified as learning disabled and half attended regular classes and were included as normal controls. The results of multivariate and univariate analyses of variance revealed significant ethnic differences for Verbal and Full-Scale IQs for both the learning …
Validation of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children Comparing Anglo and Mexican-American Preschoolers
The concurrent validity of the recently developed Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) was assessed by comparing it with the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) using two groups of 30 Anglo and 30 Mexican-American preschoolers as subjects. The correlations between the five K-ABC Scales and the three WPPSI IQs were all positive, most moderately high, with the patterns of high and low relationships very similar f…
Cross-Racial Comparison of the Wais and Wais-R
This research involved a cross-racial comparison of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) with the revised version, the WAIS-R. Three groups of 25 Anglo, 25 Black, and 25 Mexican-American male college students were administered both versions of the WAIS on the same day, using a procedure that precluded the repetition of identical test items. The data were subjected to multivariate, then univariate, analyses of variance and correlational an…

A review of the literature reveals no published research on the use of college entrance examinations in Mexico. A validity study on a locally developed college entrance examination at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, Mexico was conducted on the entire freshman class entering the college of Accounting and Business Administration.
