A Note on the Relationship between Acculturation and Socioeconomic Status
Studies investigating the acculturation of Hispanic-Americans often overlook socioeconomic status (SES) as an important correlate with acculturation. This study examined the relationship between acculturation and SES among a group of Mexican-American college students. This article provides a brief review of empirical studies that have addressed the role of acculturation across a variety of psychosocial variables (ie., family socialization, social-support networks, alcoholism, and psychosocial adjustment). 71 college women completed Chesney and Tasto's (1975) Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire, the Bern Sex-role Inventory, the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale, and a revised Attitudes Towards Romantic Love Scale. A low but statistically significant correlation of .28 ( p < .05) between Bern Masculinity score and congestive, but not spasmodic, experience was found. Use of Moos' Ward Atmosphere Scale in a Residential Setting for Mentally Retarded Adolescents
A slightly modified version of the Ward Atmosphere Scale was administered to staff members and students at a residential center for mildly and moderately retarded adolescents.
