Implementation of a safer conception programme for HIV-affected men and women in rural Uganda
We integrated safer conception care into a Ugandan HIV clinic. People with HIV (PWH), or partnered with a PWH, and desiring children were eligible for the Healthy Families Clinic Program. Clients completed quarterly safer conception counselling visits and questionnaires to provide information around method preferences and outcomes (partner pregnancy, partner seroconversion). How can the average person influence environmental policy making? To answer this question, we draw on 21 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with environmental activists, lobbyists, and legislative staff members at the state level. In addition, we supplement our data with field notes at lobby days and legislative hearings as well as 22 interviews with state capital interns. Countersystem Analysis and the Construction of Alternative Futures
This essay explicates the role of countersystem analysis as an essential mode of social inquiry. In the process, particular attention is given to the place of negation and the future. One underlying theme is the asymmetry between the negative and the positive features of social activities, the negative being more readily identifiable empirically than the positive.
