    This article examines accusations by the Unionist Government of the day that the Northern Ireland civil rights movement2 was a front for Republican and Communist subversion.     This article examines the Irish Anti‐Partition League (APL) of Northern Ireland, particularly in South Armagh. It shows that it was inspired by changes in the post‐war world and emphasised nationalist unity, both within Northern Ireland and with nationalists in the South, Great Britain, the USA and the Commonwealth.
