Cooling Following the Magnetic Field Weakening During the Matuyama–Brunhes Transition Recorded by Paks Loess, Hungary
Detailed paleomagnetic and rock magnetic investigations of the Paks loess (Hungary) were conducted to determine the stratigraphic position of the Matuyama–Brunhes Transition (MBT) and to attempt to reveal the sign of any possible influences of geomagnetic field change on the climate during the geomagnetic polarity reversal. Progressive thermal and alternating field demagnetizations of samples showed that the reverse polarity field begins to fluct…
Unravelling pedogenic processes at Basaharc Loess profile in Hungary
Erosion susceptibility mapping of a loess-covered region using Analytic Hierarchy Process – A case study
In this study, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to generate erosion susceptibility maps in four basins of Kalat-e-Naderi county, namely Archangan, Kalat, Qaratigan, and Chahchaheh basins, situated in northeast Iran. The Kalat-e-Naderi region is characterized by a partial coverage of loess. Given the agricultural significance of loess and its susceptibility to erosion, this research focuses specifically on regions covered by loess. …
Investigation of spectral properties of different Quaternary paleosols and parent materials
Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) is a rapid, relatively new method in Quaternary research to analyse sediments and paleosols. This method takes into account clay mineral content, amount of Fe-bearing minerals and grain size composition of samples, simultaneously. Different Quaternary sediment samples were chosen forcharacterization and comparison their reflectance curves to detect the essential spectral properties of differentpaleosols and …
A multi-proxy study on polygenetic middle-to late pleistocene paleosols in the Hévízgyörk loess-paleosol sequence (Hungary)
Correlation of drilling cores and the Paks brickyard key section at the area of Paks, Hungary
New aspects of the interpretation of the loess magnetic fabric, Cérna Valley succession, Hungary
Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) is a frequently applied method in sedimentology, especially in the determination of the orientation of transport processes. We present an analysis of magnetic fabric (MF) studies on loess. New aspects of fabric development reveal: i) The deposition of the aeolian sediments was controlled by gravity, low-energy transport and local geomorphology, hence no clarified wind direction can be defined. ii) The i…
Dating of a Last Glacial loess sequence by relative geomagnetic palaeointensity
Revisiting the loess/palaeosol sequence in Paks, Hungary
Stable isotope composition of bulk and secondary carbonates from the Quaternary loess-paleosol sequence in Süttő, Hungary
Investigating the penultimate and last glacial cycles of the Süttő loess section (Hungary) using luminescence dating, high-resolution grain size, and magnetic susceptibility data
Luminescence and amino acid racemization chronology of the loess–paleosol sequence at Süttő, Hungary
The loess profile at Albertirsa, Hungary—improvements in loess stratigraphy by luminescence dating
Marker horizons in the loesses of the Carpathian Basin
Geochronology of Middle and Upper Pleistocene Loess Sections in Hungary
The application of both thermoluminescence and infrared stimulated luminescence dating to the extensively studied “classical” Hungarian loess/paleosol sequences from Basaharc, Mende, and Paks provides a reliable chronological framework and climatostratigraphic reconstruction for the last interglacial/glacial cycle. Based on this combined luminescence dating study a new chronology is proposed for the “Young Loess” in Hungary. Luminescence dating s…
