Befogadó városi terek létrehozása a civil társadalomtudomány segítségével
Tanulmányunk a civil társadalomtudomány (citizen social science) módszerével vizsgálja szegedi és Szeged környéki hallássérült (ezen belül a nagyothalló) fiatalok társadalmi befogadással kapcsolatos élményeit a különböző városi mikro- és mezoterekben. Részvételi kutatásunkban egy többfázisú folyamatot valósítottunk meg, amelynek részét képezte a kutatócsoport toborzása és képzése, a közös kutatási kérdések kidolgozása, félig strukturált interjúk …
Implementing the European Union Biodiversity Strategy
Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse are considered essential threats to our well‐being both in Europe and worldwide. The EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 was launched in May 2020, and it was reviewed by the Commission in 2024, assessing progress and identifying implementation gaps. To avoid the failure of yet another very ambitious Biodiversity Strategy, it is key to understand the obstacles and challenges which contribute to limiting actual im…
Networks at the science-policy-interface
An approach that has been suggested as potentially addressing the challenges of science-policy-interfaces (SPIs) is the mobilization of existing networks through a ‘network-of-networks’ (NoN) approach. This paper shares empirical findings from a mixed-method study, combining qualitative and quantitative data, that critically evaluates the ‘network-of-networks’ approach for SPIs. To establish whether and how a NoN can help existing networks act mo…
Science-society dialogue from the start
This empirical paper presents a case of a participatory agenda-setting exercise for green care services in Hungary. Science Cafés were utilised as a participatory agenda-setting tool within the framework of the InSPIRES H2020 project. The objectives were to collect perceptions of research needs from key actors in the green care field in Hungary, to generate collaborative research projects on green care services and to initiate social dialogue aro…
Confronting espoused theories with theories-in-use
This article reflects on a participatory action research process in partnership with segregated Roma communities in Hungary. It will focus on the “non-positivist good theory”-building capacity of participatory action research in situations where social distance between participants is high and where action-oriented cooperation involves numerous actors, continuously extends to new stakeholders and areas, and aims to contribute to long-term and gen…
Valuing nature’s contributions to people
Nature is perceived and valued in starkly different and oftenconflicting ways. This paper presents the rationale for theinclusive valuation of nature's contributions to people (NCP) indecision making, as well as broad methodological steps fordoing so. While developed within the context of theIntergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), this approach is more widely applicable toinitiatives at the knowledge?policy inte…
Eszközöktől a jóllétig. A helyi gazdaságfejlesztés körvonalai a képességszemléletben

Részvételi akciókutatással a társadalmi kirekesztés ellen
Tanulmányunk középpontjában a fenti problémához kapcsolódó szegedi esettanulmány áll. 2011 eleje óta részvételi akciókutatási folyamat keretében együttműködünk hely…
The Ipbes Conceptual Framework — connecting nature and people
The first public product of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is its Conceptual Framework. This conceptual and analytical tool, presented here in detail, will underpin all IPBES functions and provide structure and comparability to the syntheses that IPBES will produce at different spatial scales, on different themes, and in different regions. Salient innovative aspects of the IPBES Conceptual Framework …

Paradigms of corporate sustainability – a decade after Hijacking Environmentalism
Ecological modernization as a paradigm of corporate sustainability
Ecological modernization as a social theory is gaining more and more attention in environmental social science in general and environmental management studies in particular. Ecological modernization carries a positive message of the current institutional order being able to accommodate the challenge of ecological sustainability. This paper, by applying a critical organization studies perspective, highlights some of the theoretical shortcomings of…
Local communities empowered to plan
This article presents the second cycle of an ongoing participatory action research (PAR) project that aimed at facilitating bottom-up, sustainability planning and development in one of the most socio-economically disadvantageous micro-regions of Hungary. The process at the very beginning started as conventional qualitative research, and gradually emerged to a PAR process as deeper relationships with local people were developed and previous resear…
