Holding AI Accountable Like Herding Cats
The rise of artificial intelligence in public decision‐making is reshaping state legitimacy by shifting administrative discretion from human bureaucracies to algorithmic systems. While research has explored AI accountability and legitimacy deficits, how they are related across different decision contexts remains unclear. Drawing on bureaucratic legitimacy, procedural fairness, and forum drifting theories, this study examines how AI accountability…
Socioeconomic development index (SDI) gradients and high BMI-Driven pan-cancer burden
High BMI-driven pan-cancer burden is profoundly shaped by SDI gradients, reflecting interactions between metabolic risk, healthcare access, and socioeconomic determinants. Tailored interventions-prioritizing colorectal and breast cancers in high-SDI regions and addressing systemic inequities in low-SDI settings-are critical to mitigating the dual burden of obesity and cancer in transitioning populations
Electronic cigarette use and risk of chronic kidney disease
E-cigarette use is independently associated with CKD in a dose-dependent manner, particularly among non-diabetic individuals. Notably, NHANES data limitations include lack of past e-cigarette use or smoking history records, which may introduce residual confounding. These findings highlight vaping as a modifiable risk factor for kidney disease, urging targeted public health interventions
Global burden, socioeconomic disparities, and spatiotemporal dynamics of opioid use disorder mortality and disability
The escalating global burden of opioid use disorder (OUD) necessitates a nuanced understanding of its epidemiological patterns, socioeconomic determinants, and temporal trends. This study quantifies the global, regional, and national burden of OUD-related mortality and disability, evaluates policy correlates, and identifies critical disparities across demographic and socioeconomic strata. Using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, a…
Roles of institutions and dynamic capability in the relationship between collaboration and performance in emergency management
The existing research identifies that cross-organizational collaboration is important in the enhancement of emergency management. However, little effort has been made to empirically examine how collaboration contributes to emergency performance. Within this field lies a theoretical controversy that institutional arrangement and dynamic capability compete with each other to enhance emergency collaboration. Numerous studies find that a contingency …
