The importance of judge gender as a factor in judicial votes continues to attract much scholarly attention. I contribute to the debate on the influence of judge gender by examining the voting behavior of male and female state supreme court justices in three areas of criminal justice. We examine the voting behavior of male and female justices in 718 Fourth Amendment search and seizure votes cast on state Supreme Courts between 1980 and 2000. Court Decision Making in Police Brutality Cases, 1990-2000
Prior research on state supreme courts tends to concentrate on evaluating the influence of gender or elections on the behavior of justices but not both.
