This article reports on color usage in quantitative thematic mapping, drawing from an evaluation of maps published in eight geographical journals over the ten-year period from 2004 to 2013. During this period we found that color has become the preferred method to represent quantitative data sets, with the percentage of quantitative color maps relative to all quantitative maps rising from 18.4 percent in 2004 to 69.9 percent in 2013. This article reports on a new method for summarizing and analyzing the results of a psychophysical experiment involving proportional circle maps. This article focuses on two methods for analyzing the communicative efficiency of two-sectored pie graphs. First, an experiment is done to determine the just noticeable difference, or JND, for sector magnitudes. We introduce MapTime, a software package for exploring spatiotemporal data associated with point locations. Three basic exploration methods are available in Map-Time: animation, small multiples, and change maps.
