Preserving the Past
The three-dimensional (3D) documentation of the Similaun mummy (Ötzi the Iceman) and the associated Copper Age equipment and clothing presents unique challenges due to diverse material properties and strict conservation constraints. This study presents a comprehensive digital preservation workflow, primarily utilizing Structure from Motion (SfM) close-range photogrammetry (a method that reconstructs precise 3D geometry from overlapping 2D digital…
Unveiling Saint Theobald
Saint Theobald of Provins (1033–1066), a French nobleman who embraced voluntary poverty, hermitism, and pilgrimage, represents an early figure in the medieval ascetic movement. He holds historical significance for the diffusion of 11th‐century ascetic ideals, as a hermit saint associated with the Camaldolese order and venerated across northern Italy and France. His remains, preserved in the church of Saint Giovanni Battista in Badia Polesine (Ita…

Commercial Archaeology and 3D Web Technologies
This contribution summarizes the multiple uses of 3D web technologies in commercial archaeology. Considering the breadth of this topic, we will describe each different branch of these technologies with the example of case studies based on work of the Italian company Arc-Team. Our overview begins with 3D visualization for scientific purposes, showing a project funded by the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol (Italy) in order to improve knowledge a…
New technique in facial reconstruction
Morgagni is considered the father of pathological anatomy. He died in 1771, 89 years old, and was buried in Saint Maxim church in Padua, where his wife and five of his 15 children were already buried. In 2011, an anthropological analysis confirmed that one of the skulls belonged to the oldest individuals among those found in Morgagni's tomb. A genetic analysis proved a kinship between this skull and the fragments of young individuals (one male an…
