Parental after‐hours telework and adolescent psychological adjustment
Background and Objective Advances in information and communication technologies offer increased flexibility for employed parents but also blur work–family boundaries. Research is needed to understand how flexible working arrangements, such as after‐hours telework, may affect relationships and well‐being within the family. This study thus examined associations between adolescents' perceptions of parental after‐hours telework and psychological adju…
Interdisciplinarity and communication across research employing different methods under the loupe
In this article, we present a bibliometric analysis of studies examining the consequences of boundary-crossing information communication technology (ICT) use, e.g., the use of ICT to conduct tasks across the work and family domains. We explore main contributors, disciplines, and topics of focus, as well as knowledge gaps, and lines of communication within this interdisciplinary field. Our aim is to explore knowledge production and knowledge excha…
A life course perspective on the Neet phenomenon
This study addresses the limitations of the NEET indicator (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) as a measure of the risk of social exclusion. Applying a life course analytical framework and sequence analysis to administrative data from Norway, we investigate the link between NEET status and longer-term exclusion across cohorts, gender, and social origin. Young adults with at least one year of NEET status at ages 22–25 (N = 125 804) are fol…

Predictors of Relationship Satisfaction Across the Transition to Parenthood
The purpose of the study was to describe trajectories of relationship satisfaction across the transition to parenthood, and identify predictors of these trajectories. This study is based on the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study (MoBa). Mothers (N = 43,517) reported on their relationship satisfaction at five timepoints from 17 weeks gestation to 5 years postpartum, as well as sociodemographic, psychological, and behavioral covariate…
Can adolescent work experience protect vulnerable youth? A population wide longitudinal study of young adults not in education, employment or training (Neet)
Early work experience is found to be an influential factor in young people’s transitions from school to work. Still, we know little about whether early work experience can protect vulnerable young people from subsequent exclusion from labour and education in early adulthood. Our objective is therefore to examine how early work experience in adolescence influences the risk of being NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), and whether this …
Effects of Computerized Interventions on Risky Alcohol Use Among Youth
Purpose: The study assessed the effectiveness of computerized brief interventions (CBIs) for youth (aged 15–25) defined as risky alcohol users. Methods: We searched 10 electronic databases. Eligible studies were randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials examining the effect of CBIs for youth. Results: Fifty-three studies with 33,316 participants were included. Moderate quality evidence showed CBIs to reduce risky alcohol use compared to s…
Body Dissatisfaction and Depressive Symptoms on the Threshold to Adolescence
The current study focused on the relationship between body dissatisfaction and depressive symptoms on the threshold of adolescence. We aimed to investigate the role of body dissatisfaction in gender differences in depressive symptoms, as well as the impact of social support from peers and parents. Mediation and moderation analyses were based on self-reports from a Norwegian population-based sample (the Tracking Opportunities and Problems Study) o…
Parental Child‐Rearing Conflicts Through Adolescence
Research on longitudinal interparental conflict patterns and offspring development is scarce. The population-based TOPP study (N = 459) was used to investigate (1) child-rearing conflict trajectories through four time points during childhood and adolescence (ages 8-16), and (2) associations between conflict trajectories and child characteristics (i.e., birth order, gender, externalizing patterns from early childhood). Latent profile analysis iden…
Sleep problems in preschoolers and maternal depressive symptoms
Child sleep problems are associated with maternal depressive symptoms. It is unclear to what extent the association is due to direct effects or common risk factors for mother and child. Direct effects could represent child-driven processes, where child sleep problems influence maternal depressive symptoms, or mother-driven processes, where maternal depressive symptoms influence child sleep problems. Common factors could be shared genetic and fami…
Predicting Well‐Being and Internalizing Symptoms in Late Adolescence From Trajectories of Externalizing Behavior Starting in Infancy
This study aimed to examine the long-term prediction of well-being and internalizing symptoms from trajectories of externalizing behavior problems in 921 children from a population-based sample. We found that a high stable trajectory of externalizing behavior from infancy (age 1.5) to mid-adolescence (age 14.5) predicted lower scores on life satisfaction and flourishing for both girls and boys (age 18.5). The high stable trajectory also predicted…
Self-report measures of medication adherence behavior
Medication adherence plays an important role in optimizing the outcomes of many treatment and preventive regimens in chronic illness. Self-report is the most common method for assessing adherence behavior in research and clinical care, but there are questions about its validity and precision. The NIH Adherence Network assembled a panel of adherence research experts working across various chronic illnesses to review self-report medication adherenc…
Associations between parental chronic pain and self-esteem, social competence, and family cohesion in adolescent girls and boys – family linkage data from the Hunt study
The findings indicate that the presence of both maternal and paternal chronic pain could be a potential risk factor for lower levels of individual and family resilience factors reported by girls. Further research on the relationship between parental pain and sex-specific offspring characteristics, including positive resilience factors, is warranted. The study demonstrates the importance of targeting the entire family in chronic pain care
Trajectories of maternal symptoms of depression and anxiety over 13 years
This study indicates that factors present early in the child rearing phase may provide substantial prediction of the variance in maternal symptoms of depression and anxiety over the following 13 years. Temperamental distress and child related stressors were the strongest predictors of membership in different depression and anxiety symptom trajectory groups
