The study of the long-term consequences of severe malnutrition was undertaken in Jamaica, West Indies. Subjects were male school-age children who had been malnourished during the first two years of life (index cases). Each index child was compared with his male sibling nearest in age (when he had one) and a male classmate nearest in age.
