Tuberculosis prevention in low- and middle-income settings in the Asia-Pacific region, a qualitative scoping review
Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading cause of death globally, with most new TB cases notified in the Asia-Pacific region. We aimed to synthesize qualitative research of TB prevention strategies from the region, summarizing reported barriers to and facilitators of practices, and identifying important gaps and opportunities for future research. A scoping review was conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework and includes qualitative studies publish…
Substance Use and Risky Sexual Behavior Among Adolescents
Background: Adolescents, comprising about 16% of the global population, experience unique challenges during their transition to adulthood, which can be marked by substance use and risky sexual behaviors. Two key gaps exist in previous studies investigating substance use and sexual behaviors among adolescents including: (1) lack of stratified analysis based on sex; and (2) the use of broader or composite term/variable 'substance use'. This study s…
Outpatient Virtual Care Among People Living With and Beyond Cancer From Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds in Australia
BACKGROUND: Virtual care is increasingly being used to deliver outpatient cancer services, yet people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds can experience inequities in accessing these services. A range of complex and context-specific factors impact the effectiveness of virtual care and equity in its use and outcomes. This study draws on the methodological principles of realist evaluation to provide contextual understandin…
Interplay of physical activity, self-rated health, and life satisfaction among large-bodied adolescents in Europe and North America
The study supports the hypothesis that poorer self-rated health is associated with lower life satisfaction among large-bodied adolescents. It further suggests that increased physical activity can 'partly' buffer the negative effects of poor self-rated health on life satisfaction. These findings emphasise the importance of interventions promoting physical activity and positive self-care to improve general well-being in large-bodied adolescents
Migration and health literacy
The findings offer a needed social-cultural re-framing of health literacy to describe and capture health care practices and beliefs of cultural groups such as African refugees in Australia. Expanding health literacy to include social and cultural dimensions could strengthen African refugee patients' knowledge about the health system and empower health care services and providers to adapt their processes, structures and procedures to different hea…
