A Co-produced International Qualitative Systematic Review on Lived Experiences of Trauma During Homelessness in Adulthood and Impacts on Mental Health
Trauma can be both a cause and a consequence of homelessness and has lasting impacts on mental health and wellbeing. Often research focusses on trauma and adversity in childhood leading to homelessness, but understanding traumatic experiences during adulthood homelessness can be just as important for informing intervention development and policies to mitigate and eradicate homelessness. Working with people with lived experience of homelessness, t…
Co‐Producing Personalised Discharge Planning
BACKGROUND: Informal caregivers are often expected to support patients transitioning from hospital to home and yet are routinely overlooked in discharge planning. This gap can leave caregivers unprepared and unsupported, contributing to avoidable complications and distress. In response, we co-designed a personalised discharge planning toolkit to support meaningful conversations between hospital staff and informal caregivers. METHODS: Using a part…
The Acceptability of a Tobacco Dependency Treatment for NHS Staff in the North East of England
The service was deemed highly acceptable, and service users' experiences informed recommendations for improving future tobacco dependency services. This is the first known application of the TFA to an evaluation of a smoking cessation intervention, and it contributes to a broader body of research on reducing tobacco dependency
Maternal and early childhood health and social outcomes of migrants in high-income countries and the impact of policies that restrict access to healthcare; a systematic review and meta-analysis
Migrant women and children face mixed maternal and child health outcomes in HICs • Emergency caesarean, low Apgar, and perinatal mental health risks are elevated • Restrictive healthcare policies may contribute to adverse perinatal outcomes • Evidence from countries with inclusive policies and on child health is limited • Further research is needed to inform equitable care and policy for migrant families The “healthy migrant effect” suggests migr…
Effectiveness and implementation of lower-intensity weight management interventions delivered by the non-specialist workforce in postnatal women
Lower-intensity interventions delivered in primary and community care contacts could provide more equitable and scalable weight management support for postnatal women. This mixed-methods systematic review aimed to explore the effectiveness, implementation, and experiences of lower-intensity weight management support delivered by the non-specialist workforce. We included quantitative and qualitative studies of any design that evaluated a lower-int…
Assessing fidelity of design and training of Making Every Contact Count (Mecc) in a mental health inpatient setting
The implementation of MECC across the mental health inpatient setting and the training package appear to be delivered as intended therefore demonstrating good fidelity and potential benefits to public health. Future research would benefit from assessing cascade training sessions from those who have completed train the trainer to evaluate ongoing fidelity of training across the trust
Reintroducing face-to-face support alongside remote support to form a hybrid stop smoking service in England
The hybrid approach allows smoking cessation services to evaluate which groups benefit from remote, face-to-face, or mixed options and allocate resources accordingly. Providing choice, flexible provision, non-judgmental support, and clear information about available options could improve engagement and match support to individual needs, enhancing outcomes
Whose pain is real pain and whose pain is not
The role of social support in help-seeking for minoritised ethnic women is complex; functioning as both a facilitator and a barrier to help-seeking, contingent upon individual circumstances and subjective perceptions. The dissatisfaction expressed by women around the current perinatal care highlights the need for services in England to prioritise cultural humility and empathetic support to enhance outcomes for minoritised ethnic women
It’s Difficult, There’s No Formula”
Generalists and specialists recognise the need for better communication with each other. Current care is characterised by silo-based working that ignores the contribution of other sectors. Failure to bridge this communication gap will result in people with stroke continuing to experience unmet stroke needs and fragmented care
Women's views of continuity of information provided during and after pregnancy
Straightforward transfer of care from pregnancy to the postpartum period is associated with health benefits and is desired by women worldwide. Underpinning this transfer of care is the sharing of information between healthcare professionals and the provision of consistent information to women. In this qualitative study, two aspects of continuity of information were examined; first the information passed on from midwife to health visitor regarding…
