Mind the Gap
The link between economic inequality and individual well-being has been gaining increasing research attention. This study examines this relationship using data from 71 countries with diverse national incomes, addressing three key research gaps: (1) incorporating measures of both perceived and objective economic inequality, (2) extending analysis to multiple components of well-being beyond happiness, including meaning in life, harmony, and spiritu…
Beyond Religious Narcissistic Identification
Agnosticism and atheism are often grouped simply as nonreligious identities, yet emerging research highlights their distinct psychological profiles and social implications. Among these distinctions, collective narcissism – characterized by strong attachment to one’s group, exceptionalism, and grievance for recognition – offers a framework for understanding identity processes in both nonreligious groups. We examined whether agnostics and atheists …
Attitudes toward posthumous organ donation in Kazakhstan
Introduction: The present study aims to examine the attitudes of the Kazakhstani population toward posthumous organ donation using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative results indicate that more than one-third of respon…
Too uncertain to consent, too supportive to refuse
Background Understanding the factors influencing posthumous organ donation decisions is essential for developing effective strategies to increase donor registration. While previous studies have explored reasons for consent and refusal, less attention has been given to individuals who defer the decision to their families (Decision Left to Close Relatives, DLCR). This study examines the sociodemographic, institutional, and cultural factors influenc…
The feeling is not mutual
The aim of the present research was to examine the independent contribution of beliefs in science and religion, respectively, to perceptions of science–religion compatibility across diverse countries and religious groups. To assess this, we recruited participants from three countries (the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Kazakhstan; N = 684) and presented them with measures of belief in science and religious belief as independent constructs, such…
Barriers and willingness to express consent to organ donation among the Kazakhstani population
The findings highlight the need for targeted educational campaigns to increase public awareness and address misconceptions about organ donation. Building trust in the medical system and dispelling fears of unethical practices are essential for improving donation rates. The study underscores the complex interplay of socio-demographic factors, knowledge, and perceived barriers in shaping organ donation decisions in Kazakhstan, while also emphasizin…

Testing the underlying structure of unfounded beliefs about Covid-19 around the world
Unfounded—conspiracy and health—beliefs about COVID-19 have accompanied the pandemic worldwide. Here, we examined cross-nationally the structure and correlates of these beliefs with an 8-item scale, using a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis. We obtained a two-factor model of unfounded (conspiracy and health) beliefs with good internal structure (average CFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.05, SRMR = 0.04), but a high correlation between the two factors (…
Agentic collective narcissism and communal collective narcissism
