  • Structural Compensation and Participatory Approaches

Open Access•Camille Guiheneuf, Marie Dauvrin•ARTICLE•Journal of Immigrant and Minority…•2025

In Europe, non-profit organisations provide health care to undocumented immigrants (UDM), filling the gaps left by national healthcare systems: this approach is referred as "structural compensation". Integrating beneficiaries in developing interventions can be a source of effectiveness, but evidence shows that UDM involvement is difficult. This scoping review aimed to identify best practices related to participative approaches in structural compe…

  • General practitioners’ repertoires of patients with a migration background and mental health problems

Camille Wets, Camille Duveau et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Referências: 6

Purpose Despite a higher prevalence of mental health problems among people with a migration background, recent studies indicate these patients have more unmet medical needs and are under-represented in mental health services. General practitioners (GPs) are central gatekeepers in treatment and referral to specialised mental health care. However, their recommendations can be influenced by beliefs, social norms and practices that might prejudice pe…

  • Healthcare bias and health inequalities towards displaced Syrians in Lebanon

Open Access•Riwa Khalifeh, William D’Hoore et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Introduction: According to Lebanese official data, Lebanon hosts over 1.5 million displaced Syrians (DS). Research shows that migrants encounter barriers when accessing healthcare. The social determinants of health (SDOH) related to migration are an additional challenge for DS in Lebanon, though bias plays a significant factor in exacerbating health inequalities. This study aims to identify DS perception of healthcare biases in the Lebanese healt…

  • Individual, interpersonal, and organisational factors associated with discrimination in medical decisions affecting people with a migration background with mental health problems

Open Access•Camille Duveau, Camille Wets et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnicity and Health•2023•Referências: 15

This paper showed that lower levels of trust among GPs' towards their migrant patients and high GP workloads contribute to an increased ethnic bias in medical decision-making. This may perpetuate ethnic inequalities in mental health care. Future researchers should develop an intervention to decrease the ethnic inequities in mental health care by addressing GPs' trust in their migrant and ethnic minority patients

  • Culturally competent interventions in Type 2 diabetes mellitus management

Marie Dauvrin, Vincent Lorant•ARTICLE•Ethnicity and Health•2014

OBJECTIVES: Although, culturally competent (CC) interventions aim to reduce health inequalities for ethnic minorities, they have been criticized on the grounds that they increase prejudice and stereotyping. It remains unclear whether CC interventions really can reduce health inequalities among ethnic minorities. The purpose of this review is to assess whether CC interventions in the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) match the recommen…

  • Towards fair health policies for migrants and ethnic minorities

Open Access•Marie Dauvrin, Ilse Derluyn et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

The ETHEALTH group was an example of scientific advice on a global health issue. It also demonstrated the feasibility of coming up with a comprehensive strategy to decrease ethnic health inequalities, even in a political context where migration issues are sensitive. Two final lessons may be highlighted at the end of the first phase of the ETHEALTH project: firstly, the combination of scientific knowledge and practical expertise makes recommendati…

  • Health care for immigrants in Europe

Open Access•Walter Devillé, Tim Greacen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Experts across Europe asserted the right to culturally sensitive health care for all immigrants. There is a broad consensus among experts about the major principles of good practice that need to be implemented across Europe. However, there also is some disagreement both within and between countries on specific issues that require further research and debate
