Perceived Pain Sensitivity and Treatment Recommendations for Socially Mobile Individuals
While prior research shows that higher-class individuals are perceived as more sensitive to pain than lower-class individuals, little is known about how perceptions of pain are shaped by changes in social class. Across a pilot study and five experiments with Chinese and U.S. participants (N = 1,202), we investigated whether social mobility direction influences judgments of pain sensitivity and treatment, and whether perceived tenacity serves as a…
The dominance of social setting cues over gender in social categorization and induction
Research on social categorization has largely emphasized intrinsic cues such as gender, while the role of structural cues remains underexplored. Drawing on structuralist perspectives, this research directly compared the dominance of social setting cues, a concrete form of structural cues, and gender cues in social categorization and category‐based induction. Across three studies with five experiments, participants completed triad tasks using both…

Eliminating intergroup estrangement and promoting intergroup cooperation are pressing issues in contemporary society. Intergroup prosocial behavior is an important indicator reflecting intergroup relations. Common fate refers to the shared outcomes experienced by individuals or groups as a result of external forces. Awakening people’s sense of common fate may have a positive effect on promoting inter group cooperation and pro social behavior. How…

Effect of attribution on the emotions and behavioral intentions of third-party observers toward intergroup discriminators during the Covid-19 pandemic
The global outbreak of novel coronavirus disease COVID-19 has caused intergroup discrimination associated with the disease to become increasingly prominent. Research demonstrates that the attitudes and behaviors of third-party observers significantly impact the progression of discrimination incidents. This study tested a parallel mediating model in which the attribution tendencies of observers influence their behavioral intentions through the med…

Non-Pregnant and Pregnant Women’s Femininity Preferences in Male Faces
Past research on women’s preferences for male facial masculinity in Western cultures has produced inconsistent results. Some inconsistency may be related to the use of different facial stimulus manipulations (e.g., between-sex sexual dimorphic facial manipulation or within-sex sexual dimorphic facial manipulation) that do not perfectly avoid non-facial cues, and pregnancy status may also influence women’s face preferences. We therefore recruited …
“Psychological Typhoon Eye Effect” and “Ripple Effect”
COVID-19 has greatly affected the psychological state of Chinese people. This study carried out a dynamic follow-up survey of the psychological state of Chinese people and their evaluation of Wuhan residents during the epidemic period since the day of Wuhan’s citywide lockdown. The purpose of this work was to explore differences in degree of concern, risk perception, and anxiety response among regions affected by COVID-19 to different degrees. Ou…
