    Hamad H Albloshi•ARTICLE•British Journal of Middle Eastern…•2024

This paper examines the dynamics between different social groups within Kuwait's society, specifically focusing on the majority Arab population and the minority Ajam group originating from Iran. The Ajam community is distinct from the Arabs in terms of ethnicity and religious beliefs, with the majority of them identifying as Shiʿi Muslims while the majority of Kuwaitis are Sunni Muslims. • Karamet Watan

    Hamad H Albloshi, Michael Herb•ARTICLE•The Middle East Journal•2018•Referências: 2

This article seeks to explain the failure of the 2012–14 Kuwaiti reform movement Karamet Watan. We compare Karamet Watan with two previous reform movements in Kuwait: Nabiha Khamsa in 2006 and Irhal in 2011. All three movements were nonviolent, which Erica Chenoweth and Maria Stephan have shown to be associated with the success of reform movements. We argue that Karamet Watan differed from the earlier movements in its choice of goals; its choice …

    Hamad H Albloshi•ARTICLE•Journal of Arabian Studies•2016

This paper deals with the Ḥūthī insurgency in Yemen. It focuses on the movement by asking and attempting to answer the following questions: is the Ḥūthī insurgency sectarian-based? and is it part of the overall competition between Sunnīs and Shīʿa in the Middle East? To answer these questions, the paper analyzes lectures given by its founder, Hussein Badr al-Dīn al-Ḥūthī. By paying close attention to the ideological framework of al-Ḥūthī, this pa…

  • Sectarianism and the Arab Spring

    Open Access•Hamad H Albloshi•ARTICLE•The Muslim World•2016•Citada por: 5

This paper addresses the Arab Spring and Shiʿism in Kuwait. Generally, the Kuwaiti Shiʿa, who constitute 25 to 30 percent of Kuwaiti society, have been supportive of the Bahraini uprising of 2011. However, the Kuwaiti Shiʿa have opposed the Syrian revolution, and they did not support the opposition movement in Kuwait. The Shiʿa's relationship with the authorities and the opposition in the country has changed, and this paper explores this change. …
