Community perspectives on health needs and assets in underserved Dublin areas
Health inequalities, deeply connected to broader social determinants such as unemployment, inadequate housing, and limited access to healthcare and essential services, remain a global concern. These factors disproportionately impact socioeconomically underserved communities, even in high-income countries. In Ireland, similar disparities are evident within urban areas. Although policy and practice increasingly promote community participation, ther…
Impact of community-based participatory research on capacity building
Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) is increasingly recognised as a promising approach in health research for fostering participation and improving longterm outcomes. However, limited evidence exists on how specific CBPR processes contribute to sustainable impacts. This study employed a multi-method qualitative design to explore how CBPR processes influenced community capacity building (CCB) in addressing household and ambient air pollu…
Exploring community-based participatory research for household and ambient air pollution projects
Key informants' perspectives identified factors supported by the CBPR model to inform the design and implementation of the CBPR approach. The add-ons to some of the model's factors, such as intra-community dynamics, give value to the informants' knowledge to support community-research partnerships and improve outcomes in HAAP intervention projects. Addressing these factors at the design stage and reporting CBPR evaluation could deepen the underst…
