How Does a Rural Poverty Alleviation Program Affect Parents’ Aspirations About Their Children? Evidence from BRAC-TUP in Bangladesh
This paper analyses the unintended effects of a randomised controlled trial in Bangladesh targeting the ultra-poor on parental occupational aspirations for their children. Because significant aspirational gaps exist between poor and wealthy households, as well as between boys and girls, this study analyses whether a graduation-type program can reduce these gaps. Because the intervention bundles different services including the transfer of a produ…
A machine learning approach to assessing multidimensional poverty and targeting assistance among forcibly displaced populations
A multidimensional approach to measuring vulnerability to poverty among refugee populations
This study constructs a multidimensional livelihood index (MLI) using data from Syrian refugees in Lebanon to identify households who are currently poor. The MLI is then used to predict households' vulnerability to future poverty using a three‐stage Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) model. The analysis identifies more precisely which households and geographical locations are vulnerable to experiencing prolonged poverty. This study is amon…
