Sociolinguistics
Within variationist sociolinguistics, statistical analysis is central to identifying patterns in language usage. Traditional analysis methods have persisted in research for approximately 40 years, even while major advances in statistical methods outside sociolinguistics are common practice. Expressing future tense in Spanish
The present investigation examines the expression of futurity (periphrastic vs. morphological future) in Spanish in corpora from Caracas, Venezuela, Mexico City, Mexico, and three cities in Spain. The results indicate that, in the Caracas and Mexico City data, the periphrastic future (PF) has been generalized as the default future expression, while the use of the morphological future (MF) has specialized as an epistemic marker of uncertainty. This sociophonetic study examines affricate variation through a continuous lens using diachronic data from Caracas Spanish. This study examines word order variation in negative word + más constructions in Caracas Spanish, with más pre-posed or post-posed in relation to the negative word. This investigation contributes to the understanding of language attitudes toward consonantal deletion by examining its perception using a matched-guise experiment (Casesnoves and Sankoff 2004; Lambert, Hodgson, Gardner, and Fillenbaum 1960) with fifteen listeners. Two experiments were designed for testing language attitudes, one toward intervocalic /d/ deletion and one toward syllable-final /ɾ/ deletion. The findings of this research support the …

This investigation extends the research on the use of Spanish copulas ser and estar in Venezuela to all [copula + adjective] contexts (see De Jonge 1993; Malaver 2000 for work on expressions of age).
