Open Access•Mark Brennand, Maisie Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•2003•Citada por: 8•Referências: 48

In 1998 a circle of timber posts within the intertidal zone on the north Norfolk coast was brought to the attention of the Norfolk County Council Archaeological Service. A subsequent programme of archaeological recording and dating revealed that the structure was constructed in the spring or early summer of 2049 BC, during the Early Bronze Age. Because of the perceived threat of damage and erosion from the sea a rescue excavation was undertaken d…

  • ‘… The old stone fortt at Newcastle …’ The Redoubt, Nevis, eastern Caribbean

Elaine L Morris, Elaine Morris et al.•ARTICLE•Post-Medieval Archaeology•1999

The impending destruction of a small, crenellated stone fortification of 17th-century English construction located on the coast of the Caribbean island of Nevis prompted its preservation by record. Each interior and exterior elevation has been recorded by scaled drawings and photographs. Limited excavation of the interior revealed that there had been a mortared floor which continued through the only doorway, unusually located to face the sea. Doc…

  • The chapel and enclosure on the Brough of Deerness, Orkney

Christopher D Morris, NORMAN EMERY et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Society of…•1987•Citada por: 4

Excavations took place at this site in 1975-6, followed by a survey in 1977, at the invitation of the Inspectorate of Ancient Monuments, as clearance of turf and rubble had previously revealed a hoard of post-medieval coins. Further coins were found, which relate to the period after usage of the chapel had ceased: the group is interpreted in votive terms and related to accounts of pilgrimage to the site. The unicameral chapel itself had both a ti…

  • A Middle Saxon Iron Smelting Site at Ramsbury, Wiltshire

    Jeremy Haslam, L Biek et al.•ARTICLE•Medieval Archaeology•1980•Citada por: 5•Referências: 6

EXCAVATIONS on a site in the High Street, Ramsbury revealed an iron smelting and smithing site datable by radioxcarbon determination and analysis of the finds to the late 8th and early 9th centuries. The industrial structures consisted of bowl furnaces and associated features of at least three phases, and included a timber-framed shelter. A ‘developed bowl’ furnace with slag-tapping facilities was built in the last phase, and had survived to a su…

  • Workers’ Self-Management and Social Property

    Open Access•David F Williams•ARTICLE•The Review of Black Political…•1976•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

Self-management provides a context and a process for economic growth, political development, and institution building. Since its use as a developmental model does not presuppose unalterable fealty to any dogmatical theory, it can be easily modulated and revised to fit the particular needs and circumstances of the black community. For example, the concept of workers’ management and social property is a derivation of Marxian theory of social and ec…
