Pithos Burials on the Greek Mainland during the Bronze Age
In this paper I discuss pot burials on the Greek mainland during the Early and Middle Bronze Ages. Burials in pithoi (large storage jars) and smaller jars first occur on the Greek mainland in the EH period and are found throughout the MH period. They seem to have been more popular in some regions than in others. The Palaikastro Kouros and Iconoclasm in the Wider Mediterranean Area
This article discusses the chryselephantine statue known as the Palaikastro Kouros, which was recovered in the excavations at Palaikastro in eastern Crete in the 1980s. The statue and the sanctuary building in which it had stood had been deliberately destroyed c. 1450 bc . It is probable that the motivation for the destruction was iconoclastic. The Vlochos Archaeological Project (2016–2018) was a Greek-Swedish archaeological investigation of the remains of the ancient urban site at Vlochos in western Thessaly, Greece. Social and symbolic aspects of Minoan writing
This article looks at the non-utilitarian functions of writing in Crete during the Palatial period. It argues that writing was used as a marker of status and prestige and that it was also used for communication with the divine. It also attempts to interpret what have usually been seen as isolated examples of writing systems as pseudo-writing
The Purpose of Porphyry's Letter to Marcella
Porphyry's Letter to Marcella was ostensibly written by the Neoplatonic philosopher, while away on a mission on behalf of the Greeks, in order to encourage his wife, Marcella, to continue her study of philosophy during his absence. The precise date of the letter is uncertain. It is here argued that it was intended for public circulation and should be seen in association with Porphyry's anti-Christian polemic. Bilingual Acquisition of L1 Punjabi and L2 English by Sandwell Primary School Children
Diagnostic Expressive Language (Syntax) Tests of L1 Punjabi and L2 English were devised by a joint Health and Education Department team and administered to 99 Punjabi-speaking sub-jects after 5, 8 and 11 Terms of School in England. Their scores were analysed on a two-dimensional matrix by error analysis to form profiles of their behaviour in the two lanÂguages.
