Transformative Pathways for Strengthening Climate‐Resilient Health Systems Among Indigenous Communities
Most climate‐resilience health interventions are designed at the global level, with minimal attention to Indigenous communities' needs. The lack of consideration can lead to unintended harm and exacerbate health risks. This study aims to identify the capacities of Indigenous communities that can serve as transformative pathways in safely adopting global climate‐resilient health approaches within Indigenous contexts, ensuring the aims of the Susta…
Climatic Drivers of Malaria Incidence
In the fight to eliminate malaria from its borders, Bangladesh continues to have the disease entrenched in 13 of its 64 districts, and the mechanisms that explain the persistence of malaria particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) are poorly understood. Previous work in other study areas has noted the importance of specific climate and weather conditions that support malaria outbreaks, and an understanding of those relationships in Bangl…
A conceptual framework to improve climate-resilient health among Indigenous communities
Flooding and emergency department visits
Estimating changes in emergency department visits associated with floods caused by Tropical Storm Imelda using satellite observations and syndromic surveillance
Investigating the Relationship Between Climate and Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis)
Negotiating 'New' Narratives
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is currently in the midst of an extraordinary period of mega-event hosting. While a large number of articles have been keen to illustrate the transformative potential and dilemmas of utilizing mega-events to advance an urban agenda, less understood is the role that media play in the construction of the 'media geography' of mega-events. This research examines the collective narratives crafted by five Western international n…
Do the Features, Amenities, and Quality of Physical Activity Resources Differ Between City and County Areas of a Large Rural Region
The goal of this work was to provide a community-academic partnership with actionable information for physical activity (PA) for a rural health-disparate region. Identified PA outlets were audited and combined with survey data for 813 residents in the region. Less than a third of sampled residents (28%) met PA recommendations, with low perceptions of safety for PA. PA resource outlets in rural areas had higher numbers of incivilities. On the basi…
An Examination of the Demographic and Environmental Variables Correlated with Lyme Disease Emergence in Virginia
The lay of the language
Although visible in research in the 1980s and 1990s, works concerning language-mapping issues are recently rather absent. This is an unfortunate oversight given current GIS capability and its potential to tackle visualization issues that were previously simply acknowledged and accepted. Given that there are no established guidelines for language map construction, this work aims to renew attention to language mapping, beginning with a survey docum…
Evaluating Differences in Landscape Interpretation between Webcam and Field-Based Experiences
Field trips have become less common due to issues including budget constraints and large class sizes. Research suggests that virtual field trips can substitute for field visits, but the role of webcams has not been evaluated. To investigate the potential for webcams to substitute for field trips, participants viewed urban and physical landscapes either in-person or by webcam. Differences in landscape interpretation responses between webcam viewer…
