Feasibility Testing a Family-Level Intervention to Prevent Risky Sex Behaviors Among Middle School–Age Latinas
Purpose: In this article, we report a pilot study that tested the feasibility and initial efficacy of a culturally, linguistically, and developmentally tailored risky sex prevention intervention for middle school–age Latinas and their mothers. Design: We used a one-group pre-test, post-test, and 3-month post-intervention follow-up design. Data were collected at three points on aspects of the girls’ communication, beliefs, and behaviors. Toward A Feminist Pedagogy In Economics
Feminist economists have used feminist thought to analyze and revise the discipline of economics. This paper extends these analyses to the teaching of economics in college and suggests that feminist teaching methods might serve economists well in transforming the economics classroom to one that is more hospitable to wider audiences. The history and achievements of the American Economic Association's (AEA) Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) over the past twenty-five years are reviewed. Discovering Diversity in Introductory Economics
Instructors can begin the process of integrating race and gender issues into introductory economics by reexamining their courses with a new lens of diversity. The content of introductory economics can be expanded by ‘adding and stirring’ race and gender data from standard statistical sources or from the students themselves. Teaching Intermediate Macroeconomics as A Lab Science
This article examines the possibility of combining a laboratory format with the traditional lecture format typically used to teach intermediate macroeconomic theory. The authors argue that this new lecture/laboratory format enables instructors to improve student understanding of both theoretical and empirical issues in intermediate macroeconomics.
