Anticipatory grief (AG) in family carers of people living with motor neurone disease (MND) is underexplored. Research has identified MND symptoms as significant predictors of AG in carers. This study investigated whether carer psychological inflexibility moderates the relationship between MND symptoms and carer AG, a crucial area for informing supportive interventions. This Study Contrasts Two Opposing Conceptualizations Of Personality's Effect Upon Grief: A Traditional Ego Psychology (Risk Factor) View And Lazarus And Folkman's Contextual Coping Model. The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations, and the Revised Grief Experience Inventory were administered to 101 bereaved adults. This study examined the degree to which an individual's propensity to experience emotional distress and restraint are predictive of grief intensity in a sample of older widow(er)s ( N = 51). Characteristic distress was found to be a significant predictor of present grief intensity, whereas repressive defensive-ness was found to predict past grief, as recalled from the time of loss.
