  • Late Quaternary Sea-Level Changes and the Palaeohistory of Palawan Island, Philippines

Emil Robles, P J Piper et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Island and Coastal…•2014•Citada por: 3•Referências: 23

Palaeogeographic reconstructions of Palawan Island using Geographic Information Systems based on present-day bathymetry show extensive changes in land area with respect to sea-level fluctuations during the Late Quaternary. Our analysis shows that a lowering of at least 135 meters from present-day levels is needed in order to expose a narrow land connection between Palawan and Sundaland. This most likely last occurred during OIS 12 (ca. 440 Ka) an…

  • Preliminary study on the preservation of giant clam (Tridacnidae) shells from the Balobok Rockshelter archaeological site, south Philippines

    Open Access•Marie Grace Pamela G Faylona, Claire E Lazareth et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2011•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

Tridacnidae shells, a valuable archive of past environments, are common in the Balobok Rockshelter archaeological site on Sanga‐Sanga Island in the south Philippines. This site was occupied during the mid‐Holocene (ca. 5000–8800 14 C yr B.P.), a period of Neolithic cultural expansion in the Philippines. This paper focuses on the preservation of two shell specimens, Hippopus hippopus and Tridacna maxima, unearthed from two mid‐Holocene layers with…

  • Terminal Pleistocene to mid-Holocene occupation and an early cremation burial at Ille Cave, Palawan, Philippines

Open Access•Helen Lewis, Victor Paz et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2008•Citada por: 16•Referências: 26

Excavations at a cave site on the island of Palawan in the Philippines show occupation from c. 11000 BP. A fine assemblage of tools and faunal remains shows the reliance of hunter-foragers switching from deer to pig. In 9500-9000 BP, a human cremation burial in a container was emplaced, the earliest yet known in the region

  • The Palaeolithic in the Philippines

Richard Fullagar, Alfred Pawlik et al.•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•2003•Citada por: 21•Referências: 5

This report presents an overview of the state of Palaeolithic archaeology in the Philippines, a type of study that began about 80 years ago. A number of Palaeolithic sites have been investigated, mainly on the islands of Palawan and Luzon. Indications for the presence of early human occupation can be found in the Middle Pleistocene, while the oldest human fossils associated with Palaeolithic stone tools are about 50,000 years old. Morphological, …
