  • Opioid exposure in gestation, postnatal adversity, and preschool-age cognitive functioning

Open Access•Sanjana Ravi, Andrew E Molnar et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Children prenatally exposed to opioids exhibit impairments in cognitive functioning and have an increased likelihood of experiencing other forms of adversity. Given that these other forms of early life adversity are linked to lower levels of cognitive functioning, it is important to determine whether the association between opioid exposure and cognitive functioning is better explained by other forms of adversity. The current study used a practica…

  • Care pathways of individuals with tuberculosis before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bandung, Indonesia

Open Access•Lavanya Huria, Bony Wiem Lestari et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

The COVID-19 pandemic is thought to have undone years’ worth of progress in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). For instance, in Indonesia, a high TB burden country, TB case notifications decreased by 14% and treatment coverage decreased by 47% during COVID-19. We sought to better understand the impact of COVID-19 on TB case detection using two cross-sectional surveys conducted before (2018) and after the onset of the pandemic (2021). These surv…

  • Group-based trajectory models of integrated vaccine delivery and equity in low- and middle-income countries

Open Access•Sanjana Ravi, Sanjana J Ravi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2024

Integrated vaccine delivery is most strongly associated with improvements in vaccination equity in settings with high baseline levels of inequity. Continued scholarship is needed to further characterize the relationship between integration and health equity, as well as to improve measurement of vaccination coverage and integration

  • The impacts of Covid-19 and its policy response on access and utilization of maternal and child health services in Tanzania

Open Access•Elizabeth H Shayo, Nahya Khamis Nassor et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

The SARS-Cov-2 virus (COVID-19) has had a global social and economic impact. Despite the growing evidence, its effects on access and delivery of maternal and child health services in low-income countries are still unclear. This cross-sectional case study was conducted in Mjini Magharibi, Chake Chake, and Ilala districts in Tanzania to help fill this gap. The study combined qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, providing an account…

  • How to eradicate polio in Pakistan

Open Access•Marium Sultan, Svea Closser et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, is one of two countries where wild poliovirus is still endemic. Frontline workers (FLWs) are the staff most intimately familiar with both implementation challenges and community context. Harnessing their expertise may be a way to improve the community-polio program interface, which has been a persistent and shifting challenge in polio-endemic areas of both countries. From 2020–2022, we engaged frontline workers i…

  • Using One Health assessments to leverage endemic disease frameworks for emerging zoonotic disease threats in Libya

Open Access•Lauren N Miller, Hatem Elmselati et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

Continued emergence, re-emergence and spread of zoonotic diseases demonstrates the imperative need for multisectoral communication and joint coordination of disease detection and response. While there are existing international frameworks underpinning One Health capacity building for pandemic prevention and response, often guidance does not account for challenges faced by countries undergoing long-term conflict and sociopolitical instability. The…

  • Covid-19 in the US-affiliated Pacific Islands

Open Access•Haley L Cash McGinley, W Thane Hancock et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

The US-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPIs) experience many health disparities, including high rates of non-communicable disease and limited health resources, making them particularly vulnerable when SARS-CoV-2 began circulating globally in early 2020. Therefore, many USAPIs closed their borders early during the COVID-19 pandemic to give them more time to prepare for community transmission. Routine virtual meetings were established and maintained …

  • When it is better to give than to receive

    Open Access•Anne A Fast, Sanjana Ravi et al.•ARTICLE•Social Development•2023•Referências: 10

Humans experience emotional benefits from engaging in prosocial behavior. The current work investigates factors that influence the experience of happiness from giving to others in early childhood. In three studies with 5‐year‐olds ( N = 144), we find that young children are happier from giving resources to others than from receiving resources for themselves (Study 1) and investigate when children are most happy from giving. In Study 2, children w…

  • Using prediction polling to harness collective intelligence for disease forecasting

Open Access•Tara Kirk Sell, Kelsey Lane Warmbrod et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Crowd forecasting efforts in public health may be a useful addition to traditional disease surveillance, modeling, and other approaches to evidence-based decision making for infectious disease outbreaks

  • Developmental Changes in the Association Between Cognitive Control and Anxiety

    Open Access•Courtney A Filippi, Anni R Subar et al.•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2021

Anxiety has been associated with reliance on reactive (stimulus-driven/reflexive) control strategies in response to conflict. However, this conclusion rests primarily on indirect evidence. Few studies utilize tasks that dissociate the use of reactive ('just in time') vs. proactive (anticipatory/preparatory) cognitive control strategies in response to conflict, and none examine children diagnosed with anxiety. The current study utilizes the AX-CPT…

  • The SPARS Pandemic 2025-2028

Open Access•E K Brunson, Hannah Chandler et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of International Crisis…•2020

Effective communication about medical countermeasures—including drugs, devices and biologics—is often critical in emergency situations. Such communication, however, does not just happen. It must be planned and prepared for. One mechanism to develop communication strategies is through the use of prospective scenarios, which allow readers the opportunity to rehearse responses while also weighing the implications of their actions. This article descr…

  • A checklist to improve health system resilience to infectious disease outbreaks and natural hazards

Open Access•Diane Meyer, David Bishai et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2020

Recent infectious disease outbreaks, including the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have demonstrated the critical importance of resilient health systems in safeguarding global health security. Importantly, the human, economic and political tolls of these crises are being amplified by health systems’ inabilities to respond quickly and effectively. Improving resilience within health systems can bu…

  • The value proposition of the Global Health Security Index

Open Access•Sanjana Ravi, Kelsey Lane Warmbrod et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2020

Infectious disease outbreaks pose major threats to human health and security. Countries with robust capacities for preventing, detecting and responding to outbreaks can avert many of the social, political, economic and health system costs of such crises. The Global Health Security Index (GHS Index)—the first comprehensive assessment and benchmarking of health security and related capabilities across 195 countries—recently found that no country is…
