  • Increase in syphilis among men who have sex with men in Brazil

Open Access•Ligia Regina Sansigolo Kerr, Ana Rita Coimbra Motta-Castro et al.•ARTICLE•Ciência & Saúde Coletiva•2026

This article aims to report the prevalence of syphilis and its associated factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Brazil. Respondent-driven sampling was conducted in 12 cities in Brazil between June and December 2016. The target sample size was 350 MSM in each city. Five to six seeds were selected to initiate recruitment and coupons and interviews were conducted online. MSM were considered syphilis-positive if the RST+ and Venereal Disea…

  • HIV prevalence among men who have sex with men in Brazil

Open Access•Ligia Regina Sansigolo Kerr, Ligia Kerr et al.•ARTICLE•Medicine•2018

This paper reports human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) prevalence in the 2nd National Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey (BBSS) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in 12 cities in Brazil using respondent-driven sampling (RDS).Following formative research, RDS was applied in 12 cities in the 5 macroregions of Brazil between June and December 2016 to recruit MSM for BBSS. The target sample size was 350 per city. Five to 6 seeds were in…

  • The Variable Expression of the C 4/5 Complex of Human Butyrylcholinesterase and Body Mass Index

    Vânia M Alcântara, Luciane C Rodrigues et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2003•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

The activity of a supposedly heteromeric complex (C4/5) of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE; EC 3.1.1.8) was analyzed in relation to body mass index (BMI). The activities of the C4/5 and C(OF) (other molecular forms) bands in CHE2 C5- (n = 447) and CHE2 C5+ (n = 88) individuals were quantified by densitometry. Since the absolute activity of C4/5 (AC4/5) showed the highest correlation coefficient with weight in the CHE2 C5- phenotype when compared to t…

  • Association of the CHE2 Locus with Body Mass Index and Butyrylcholinesterase Activity

    Vânia M Alcântara, Luciane C Rodrigues et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2001•Citada por: 2

The butyrylcholinesterase (BChE; EC 3.1.1.8) activities of two electrophoretic bands of the CHE2 C5+ phenotype--C5 and C(OF) (other forms)--were quantified by densitometry in 100 individuals. The activity data suggested that, in addition to determining C5, the CHE2*C5+ allele also increases the level of other BChE forms. Since the relative activity of C5 showed the highest correlation coefficient with weight when compared with the other BChE acti…
